Combining categories for budget monitoring

Using the new budgeting facility in MD 2017, is there a way of setting a budget target for a group of categories? For example, I have an expense category - 'Cars' - with subcategories - 'Fuel', 'Services' and 'Miscellaneous'. If I create an expenses report including these categories, the report shows the monthly outgoings on each subcategory and also shows the total expenditure on 'Cars'. This doesn't appear to be replicated in the budgeting facility, where "parent" categories are listed along with their sub-categories, and a transaction in one of the subcategories is not reflected in the parent category. While I want to retain the records of all individual categories in the main register, I want a much simpler budget overview, in which various related or similar categories are combined. Is this possible?

PS As a new user, I'm very disappointed to be still waiting for a response to my last email on an open ticket [Private issues #48376]

If you set up "budget bars" for parents on your home page, those parent bars will show the total of their child categories. And, a mouse-over of the bar will show each child category amount. Caveats: there is no printing for budget bars, setting a non-zero parent category budget amount will cause the bar to show only the parent category transactions, a "contra" type child category must have a budget amount that is positive or it will be added as a positive amount in the budget bar total.

I would also like this feature.

From what I can see, there used to be a minus sign at the bottom left of budgets that you could click to show only the parent categories with the combined total of the child categories. Any chance of reinstituting this feature?
