I want to get a summary of the total budget between now and the 5th April 2018 but don't seem to be able to get a forward view of the budget. I need to understand what income I need to generate to survive this tax year.

Also, I want to add and delete categories from budgets and don't understand how to do this.

Finally, is there a running total so I can see what my budget is to (e.g.) end October so I know how much to get out of savings until then.

I'm using the 2017 version but the 2015 PDF guide isn't very helpful on budget - has the programme changed a lot?

nicholas.hextag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/430003572017-07-15T20:03:08Z2017-07-15T20:03:08ZBudgets

Hi Nick,

Thank you of contacting us.
One option would be to use the budget report as you can choose the time frame.

Regarding the categories you can change the view or the budget itself to Active that will only show the categories that are being used (the ones that have a budgeted amount).

Using the Summary Budget Bars should give you the best overview of the running total, please find the knowledge base article on that here.

I would recommend using the knowledge base articles for the 2017 version, you can find them here.
The biggest change is the syncing engine that we added, there is more information on that available here.

I'm the developer of a Moneydance extension called Money Foresight. This extension has 2 main functions; it can forecast your future cashflow and it can compare your actual past spending against your expected past spending. It sounds like you are interested in determining what your future cashflow looks like.

The extension can be installed via the Moneydance Extension Manager (Menu -> Extensions -> Manage Extensions... ). The free version forecasts 1 month into the future. The paid version ($10 USD) is unrestricted.

Happy to answer any questions.

Regards,
