American Express re-listed among banks supporting Direct Connect
I had to change my card number. AE downloaded fine prior to the number change but now will not download -- even manually. I get the Bank Name: American Express; Error Code: 203. I have gone through the steps of disabling and refreshing. I do not see a "New Connection" button at the "Set up Online Banking" screen. There is no American Express in the pull down menu either. I am using version 2022.2. Please respond with specific instructions.

Hi,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Unfortunately, American Express has discontinued its use of OFX Direct Connect, which is required to download your transactions automatically into Moneydance for free. Sorry I don't have better news.
Without Direct Connect, you can still import your data into the program for free. To do this you can use a web browser to download files from your bank's website.
You can import the files to Moneydance using File > Import. The steps for manually importing your data are outlined in this article.
Alternatively, you can subscribe to Moneydance+. This is the new (optional) subscription service that allows you to automatically download transactions from your banks using the Plaid aggregator. You can read more about Moneydance+ in this blog post.
The steps for setting up this service are outlined here. As there is a 30-day free trial, you can fully test downloading from your bank before you're charged.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Actually, OFX is still supported by Amex credit cards. I cannot speak to Amex checking, and Amex Savings has never worked with OFX.
Your Amex was still working until you disconnected. The 203 error means you were connecting, but getting an "account not found" error.
Once you disconnected, you did not find a way to reconnect, because Moneydance removed the Amex connection, due to Maddy's assertion that OFX is no longer supported - which is not correct, yet.
Here is my cheat sheet for reestablishing an Amex OFX connection given Moneydance removed it:

Now, that said, all this will really do is put you back the way you were before disconnecting. You may get a 203 error again. For that, it's about changing the card number. You will have to make the card number selection with the card numbers displayed and blah blah blah... but don't disconnect again, or at least use this link to reconnect.
Hope that helps.

This allowed me to connect.

Glad I could help. Thanks for reporting back.
Hopefully you could also reconnect to the correct new credit card...

This comment was split into a new private discussion: American Express no longer supports the OFX service
@Maddy - given it has now been about 5 months, it might be nice to restore the American Express OFX download link. (Of course, Amex would probably discontinue OFX the day after this was done, but, whatever...)
If not restoring Amex OFX links, you are welcome to take my message about using Advanced Options in your reply about questions like this and including it as another alternative to manual downloads and MD+

I am a bit confused as to how to implement the instructions above. I have both and AMEX credit card and an AMEX Savings account. Anytime I try to setup on-line banking it takes me to Plaid (ie Moneydance+) where the Savings Account login does not work for either credentials and the Credit card login only shows the credit card.
I don't seem to have anyway to access the OFX login mentions above by dtd.
Plaid doesn't seem to be able to handle this change in AMEX procedures.

Why was this split into a private discussion? This seems like a problem that many MD users might be having.

The AMEX savings account needs to stay with Plaid/MD+ --- can't say why the login doesn't work for that.
Supposedly, you can go click on American Express (not the accounts), click connected, and disconnect. Once disconnected, that should free up "Setup/Online Banking" and you are taken to OFX. Set that up for the credit card, and then in your case go back to MD+ and setup the savings account.
That said, I have another person also going through this and also getting only MD+
I thought these disconnect/reconnect issues had been fixed, but I guess not.
I can only say my Amex credit cards are on OFX, and my Amex savings is on MD+
Stuart had(has?) Toolbox tools to fix this when it was(is?) a bug, but the other person doesn't seem to want to use it because the verbiage by Stuart could suggest it is all or nothing versus fixing one account.
I'll try to direct Stuart here.

sth - I think this part is still public.
The private bit was a discussion on putting Amex back into the saddle versus having to use my special advanced bit.

@All
This is to confirm that the American Express listing has now been reinstated here.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
