You can not change the type of an account once it's been created.

You'll need to use 'Batch Change' to move the transactions (txns) from the old Account to the new Account.

Always make sure that you have a recent backup or copy of your data file before using 'Batch Change'. Batch Change is a powerful tool. If a mistake is made using Batch Change with multiple txns selected, things can get ugly in a hurry.

1) If necessary, create the new Account of the proper type.
Menu bar > Account > New Account...
Alternately, Menu bar > Tools > Accounts > New.

2) Once the new Account is created, from the Menu bar, go to Tools > Accounts.
In the resulting window, locate the old Account that you want to move the txns out of and right-click it (CTRL-click for Mac).
Choose 'Open in New Window'. Doing so will open the Account register in a new window.

3) Make sure that the 'ALL' filter is applied. The filters reside along the top of the register.

4) Select (highlight) any txn, then use key-combo CTRL-A.
All of the txns in the register should now be selected (highlighted).

5) Right click (CTRL-click for Mac) any one of the highlighted txns.
From the resulting context menu, choose 'Batch Change', then 'Account'.
From the 'Account' drop-down list, select the name of the new Account that you created in step 1.

This process will remove all txns from the old Account and move them to the new Account.

5) You can now close the New Window.

6) You can then delete the old Account. If you wish.

Again it's best to make sure that you have a backup or copy of your data file before attempting this process.
