[I tried to submit this question a few days ago, but i can't find any record of it so I'm guessing it somehow didn't go through]

I am running moneydance 2014 on an older mac that is running OS 10.8.5
I would like to move it to a new mac, which is running OS 10.13.6 I'd be happy to upgrade moneydance as part of this

I looked at the knowledgebase. It said that I should first install the SAME version of moneydance on the new machine as on the old; transfer over the data, and then do any upgrading necessary. But I don't think that I can run moneydance 2014 on the newer machine, right? So can you tell me how I should proceed?

Thanks very much!

    I'm a fellow user.

The upgrade path that is in the Knowledge Base article is the preferred method as it has the least risks involved. It suits most instances.

Unfortunately Apple with MacOS have made it, in some instances, impossible to approach the migration to a new system in this way, you situation is one of the exceptions.

Moneydance 2014 would be a problem on 10.13.6, the minimum Moneydance release that can be supported on this platform is 2017.6, so a couple of major releases newer than what you have. Your 10.8 release of MacOS is also a bit too dated to support the latest release of Moneydance.

Hence you will need to use an alternative approach. You can use the Knowledge Base article as the basic guide but instead of downloading and installing the same version of Moneydance you download and install the latest release on the new machine.

In this instance because of some issues around MacOS I would suggest you download and install the preview release:

    https://infinitekind.com/preview

Use the instructions from the Article to copy your data between the machines and to start Moneydance, find your data set and open it.

The difference will be that Moneydance will update your data set to the latest format, as such it will take longer to open than it would normally. If it all goes to plan you will have your data on the new machine in the new data format.

You will need to purchase an upgrade for Moneydance, you can do this through the upgrade field on:

    https://infinitekind.com/purchase

The path being used here is to both move to new machine and to upgrade in one step. It is a less preferred method since making two changes simultaneously does create more avenues for problems to occur, but in your case that is unavoidable.

Thanks a lot for replying! I went ahead and it seems to have worked fine. So now I can do my taxes :(
