There are some common reasons for license keys not working, these include:

An error was made in the entry of the key. Keys must be entered exactly as they appear. The other thing often seen is misreading of the Key for example O for 0.

A cut and paste from the original email containing the key is a good way to ensure no mistakes are made.

Moneydance license keys are version specific. A license key purchased directly from The Infinite Kind is generally valid for the Major version it was purchased for plus it works for the next major release as it includes a free upgrade. The license will not work with earlier releases of Moneydance.

As far as I know, there has not been an update of MD. I'm on windows 10 using MD version 2021. The key was purchase in March of this year. Thanks.

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T02:33:38Z2020-12-06T02:33:38ZLicense no longer works

A license purchased directly from The Infinite Kind in March 2020 is expected to be for Moneydance 2019. A MD2019 license should be valid for Moneydance versions 2019, 2020 & 2021

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T04:23:59Z2020-12-06T04:24:02ZLicense no longer works

So, if that's true, then a download of MD in March 2020 should be Moneydance 2019, right? Would the license be valid if you didn't update MD?

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T04:56:03Z2020-12-06T04:56:03ZLicense no longer works

Yes, Moneydance 2020 was released in August 2020 so a March 2020 download would be of the 2019 version.

A license purchased in March 2020 directly from TIK should work with the 2019, 2020 and 2021 versions. The 2020 release was considered an extension to the 2019 version from a licensing point of view. So the 2021 version is the free upgrade that TIK provide as part of a Moneydance 2019 purchase.

You can test this using the upgrade field on

https://infinitekind.com/purchase

The system will say if the license is valid for Moneydance 2021.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T14:31:54Z2020-12-06T14:31:54ZLicense no longer works

Thank you, it makes sense. The question is, how did I get to version 2021. I didn't upgrade it myself. Nor would I have had I know the license I purchased would be invalid and only last 9 months.

So I entered my license into the test and it said I was eligible for a discounted upgrade. At least I get get a small break on the price but I'm still not happy with a 9 month license. Thanks for your help!

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T20:10:03Z2020-12-06T20:10:03ZLicense no longer works

Getting that message from the license checker indications that the license entered is for Moneydance 2017 or earlier, which would mean Moneydance being purchased in January 2019 or earlier.

If this is not the case I would suggest raising an issue in the Private Issues forum attaching a copy of your purchase invoice so that the support staff can investigate.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T21:47:38Z2020-12-06T21:47:41ZLicense no longer works

That's interesting. I know the exact day this was purchased (March 4th, 2020). However, it was purchased from Amazon. So TIK would probably not care it expired so early. However, Amazon shows it was sold by The Infinite Kind.

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T21:58:40Z2020-12-06T21:58:40ZLicense no longer works

Ahh Amazon, that could be the problem.

What third parties sell is what they have. Amazon may well have 2017 license that they are selling. Third parties sell the software under their own terms and conditions, I have no idea what their contract with TIK says.

Most of us purchase the software directly from TIK, the dates I have given are for direct sales.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T22:18:28Z2020-12-06T22:18:29ZLicense no longer works

Yep, I'll no doubt have to take it up with them.

Also, can you tell me how updates happen in MD?

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T22:25:58Z2020-12-06T22:25:58ZLicense no longer works

TIK has three sites.

One is for what they call "stable" releases. These are basically the general release of the software.

They have another site for Preview releases. During the life of a major release these are used in the main for bug fix updates. It is also used when a new major release is coming as a real preview.

The third site hosts previous versions of the software.

You download the software from these sites as needed/desired and install it.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T22:31:41Z2020-12-06T22:31:42ZLicense no longer works

Sorry, I meant how do updates come to my MoneyDance copy? Are they sent automatically or Do I have to do it manually?

Ed Chaveztag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T23:20:37Z2020-12-06T23:31:04ZLicense no longer works

juat a user here.

Updates do not come automatically.

You can get them manually, or you can download the "Check for Updates" extension and occasionally run it to see if there is anything newer.

I don't know if this works for copies not purchased direct, however.

If Amazon doesn't help you out (I doubt they will, hope I'm wrong) and you decide to rebuy, I'd recommend direct purchase.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-06T23:49:53Z2020-12-06T23:49:53ZLicense no longer works

You can also go back to the version you were using, and the license should work for you again.

The license is not invalid, and did not last only nine months - you just need to continue using the same version... or the last updated version of your "last year".

Again, I think that works for the Amazon version, but I only really know about direct purchases.

just a user

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488830422020-12-07T01:43:15Z2020-12-07T01:43:16ZLicense no longer works

I went ahead to purchase an upgrade license directly. I think you're right about Amazon but we'll see. I don't know how my MD got updated then. Thanks.

Ed Chavez
