The QIF format was developed by Intuit many years ago as a support tool. It was used to unload and reload raw data into the same structure.

It has been pushed into use as a migration format when moving between different Vendor products simply because, even though it is far from perfect, it is the best format available for the job of moving raw transaction data.

There is absolutely no need, and it is in fact a retrograde move, to use QIF when upgrading to a newer version of Moneydance. New versions of Moneydance can process and upgrade older Moneydance formatted files for use in the latest version without any loss of data.

The following articles is from Moneydance 2017 the process is the same for 2021.

Use this along with the instructions for moving files to copy the 2012 data set from the older system to the newer one.
