There is no ready mechanism in the current versions that I am aware of. There was a mechanism that could be employed in MD2017 and earlier but it has not been carried over or an alternative provided.

Making a copy of an exiting data set then deleting transactions is not optimal since with the way Moneydance writes data all those old transactions are still within the data set, the result of taking this approach is that the on disk data just gets bigger.

It may be possible to do it with an exported QIF file, I have not tried it, but you would have to extensively edit the QIF file before you attempted to import it so there is a fair bit of work also involved there.

Reinstating the old import option of bringing in Account/Category information only or a providing the capability of creating a new empty data set with exiting Account/Category information has been discussed with the developer on a number of occasions but this has not been progressed so far.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489672632021-01-12T21:20:24Z2021-01-12T21:20:24ZHow to copy register of Accounts

Thanks for confirming.
