It has the ability to guess the category which I believe is the default if it thinks it's downloaded from a bank... If it gets to the right place then I believe it will look up either based on the last bit of the name after the : or the whole string... i.e. if it's banking:interest, then I believe you can put 'interest' or 'banking:interest'.... But the importer has to get to that point... When you do file import, do you get a popup window first and does that present the infamous 'File was downloaded' check box...? If so, great then it should be NOT checked.. If it doesn't appear then we need to do some trickery to force it to accept the right answer. I can help you with this; but let's see what you say first?</p>

It didn't confirm which account I was importing to, which I'd expect because it isn't in it like with a QFX file.<br>
I added the top category with a ":" (colon) and it worked. However it wasn't perfect. Sometimes it would duplicate a record.<br>
If I didn't add the colon it would try to match the category and also create another category.. This mistake is manageable.<br>
On the whole it worked just like it should.</p></div>agabhart36tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490344532021-02-14T20:04:16Z2021-02-14T20:04:16ZSetting Category in CSV Import file<div><p>Hi. To repeat the key question. When you do file import, do you get a popup window first and does that present the infamous 'File was downloaded' check box...? If so, great then it should be NOT checked.. If it doesn't appear then we need to do some trickery to force it to accept the right answer. Basically if we force this checkbox to appear then it will always use your category specified in your file?</p></div>Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490344532021-02-14T20:10:45Z2021-02-14T20:10:45ZSetting Category in CSV Import file<div><p>Update on the import. I wouldn't guarantee, like above, it would assign to the correct category. I have to double check every one.<br>
It is easier than not having categories, as it is better than 75% accurate.</p></div>agabhart36tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490344532021-02-14T20:20:35Z2021-02-14T20:20:35ZSetting Category in CSV Import file<div><p>Yes. But what I’m trying to tell you is that we can (I believe) force it to accept the categories specified in the file if you want to...? But it sounds like you’re not bothered.... glad you have it working ok.</p></div>Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490344532021-02-14T20:34:49Z2021-02-14T20:34:49ZSetting Category in CSV Import file<div><p>What I am experiencing is just like you wrote, with some problems. It basically works.</p></div>agabhart36tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490344532021-02-14T23:17:38Z2021-02-14T23:17:38ZSetting Category in CSV Import file<div><p>OK, well if you want to try this... up to you... If you run this moneybot python script, it will allow you to call the same import but also allow you to force select the migrated_from_another_app flag - i.e. not the downloaded_from_bank flag. So when you see the normal pop up screen, leave the downloaded check box blank... I haven't tried it with CSV but I see not reason it wouldn't work. This should force the app to use the categories you specify... Let me know if you try it and it it works for you?</p>

<p>You can import category information from CSV files, categories are in the form Category:sub-category:sub-category ...</p>
<p>One of the things the import form bank option sets is whether to import category information but with CSV files that is determined by what fields are set.</p>
<p>I believe cleared status can be imported the same way with CSV files i..e. by setting the field to import.</p></div>dwg
