Importing the CSV file that Moneydance Exported as a Tab Delimited CSV
Hi
I wonder if you can help please.
I have created an export from a Report of a Tab Delimited CSV listing all the Transactions based on a set of criteria.
Is it possible to reimport that into a fresh database so that I can use that as a test dataset?
If that is not possible, is there a template to reimport data that you could let me have please?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark,
Q. Is there some reason that you didn't just make a copy of the original dataset to use as a test dataset?
Exporting the data and reimporting it into a new dataset seems overly complicated if even possible.

Thanks Kevin
I have a dataset that I would like to add to from previous data in Quicken, I tried importing it using QIF before and it was quite messed up so I would like to see if there is a way of inporting from a CSV and a template to use so that I can import just what I want.
It may not be possible but if there is a CSV template available for importing data that would be great so I could populate that and bring it in.

Hi Mark,
There is a built-in importer accessible from the File > Import menu item.
There is also a more robust CSV Importer extension accessible from the Extensions > Manage Extensions menu.
If your Quicken data does not involve investment accounts, you should be able to use one of the above mentioned means of importing your CSV file(s).
If you need help with them, let me know and I'll try to lend a hand.

Thank you Kevin
I have tried the extensions for csv and text but when mapping fields neither has the ability to map the Tags field, nor will it allow you to import the Account names for each of the transactions.
I tried searching but couldn't see a simple template to use nor detailed instructions for the extensions. Do you have any suggestions where I might find them please?

Hi Mark,
You can get instructions for the CSV Importer from the developer's GitHub page. Scroll down to the bottom. https://github.com/stant/mdcsvimporter2015/releases
Instructions for the built-in importer are available from the Moneydance knowledge base. https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/i...
With either importer, you would need to manually enter the accounts. You would then direct the importer to import the data into that specific account.

Thank you Kevin for all your help.
The trouble I am finding is nothing will import Tags, so I was just wondering if there is a way to do that and if so has anyone created a template to use?

I am thinking that the only format that supports Tags is the QIF format.

Ah, OK, thank you for that.
Probably explains a lot!
