desktop died need to setup on laptop

i have my files from my dead desktop but not sure how to get them to the correct place on laptop to continue

i downloaded MD to my laptop but do i create a new or import from old desktop and if so HOW?

As you have access to you old files the Knowledge Base article on moving to a new computer should give you the detail you need.
