Question on using Transaction Reminders
Based on the search history in the forum, the way to set up recurring transactions is to use Transaction Reminders and choose Auto-commit.
I just created a "Transaction Reminders", choose 1st day of each month, first date 1/1/2025, last date 12/31/2025, selected Auto-commit and 365 days before scheduled.
After creating the reminder, I can still it showing up in the calendar on 1st of each month since Jan 2025. However, there is no transaction showing up in my actual account.
My use case and need: I want to know the future balance for a specific account that has fixed amount of income of expenses in each month/week, so I want to know when in the future the balance will be negative (so I can schedule to move money into this account).
I wish there could be a recurring payment feature that is built into each account, instead of in the reminders tab (often a recurring transaction does not require to remind me, e.g. an automatically deducted monthly HOA fee). So I wish such recurring feature would just work like setting up a recurring event in Google calendar:
- Easily to add in an account (not in reminders page)
- Allow to set up # of occurance or end date
- Allow to delete any occurance in the middle, without deleting the whole recurring
- Allow to move (e.g. my house cleaning payment is every 2 weeks, if one cleaning was rescheduled from week 10 to week 11, then the next cleanings should be week 13, week 15, etc.)
Currently I have to manually add all recurring transactions in each account...
Thanks!

just a user,
The auto-commit for reminders works for me. Win 10 64 bit build 5172
Also I notice the auto-commit process only kicks off when you open the program.

Thanks! I think the problem is that, I usually just keep MoneyDance open forever on my Mac, and never close it, so I rarely have the chance to "open the program".

As of recent builds it runs auto commits every few hours (perhaps 3).. Check the logs, or upload one here?

Thanks Stuart, how do I download logs? I set up the transactions reminder with auto-commit last night, and have my laptop open since this morning for 4+ hours, but no transactions showing up yet.

Wow. That’s a monster log! I can see the auto commit reminders task trying to run, but I think each time it’s supposed to try, the computer is off. I also see QL spitting out 1000s of retry messages.
Do you need the QL log messages? Can you change that to INFO only for less logging perhaps?
It would be useful to restart MD and leave the machine running for a few hours and then upload a new console log (please ensure it has a .txt extension).

Here is the new logs. (Forgot to change QL logs to be INFO...)
I restarted MD yesterday morning, and let it open for ~24 hours, but still nothing showing up.
I will change QL log and restart MD, and wait for another few hours

Hi Jerry,
Can you open the moneydance preferences/settings window and select the Network tab, and then let me know if the "Auto-commit Reminders (applies to current file on this computer)" checkbox is selected? I've attached a screenshot showing that window and the checkbox.
I think that the setting is probably off, but if you want reminders to be auto-committed when that file is opened on this computer then it will need to be selected. This option was added to avoid the possibility of conflicts between auto-committed reminders if two computers have the data file open at the same time.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean, sorry I missed your message (Seems not received an email from the forum to remind me there is a reply). I checked, you are right, the setting is off, and the auto-commit works now!!! Thanks for your explanation
