credit card split into categories
I am new to Moneydance.. We use our amex for almost everything we purchase.. I am not. understanding how to enter a credit card charge into an account ledger and being able to splint the charges into different categories

You do not try to enter the credit card transaction into the bank account, this is what your post is suggesting you are thinking of doing.
You handle a credit card exactly like you do any other account, because it is an account in its own right.
Hence you set up a credit card account for Amex and enter and enter the purchases you make on the card there.
When you pay the Amex account you generally enter it as a transfer from whatever Bank account you are paying it from to the Amex Credit card account.
