To the right of the word DATE in the first column, you should see a small arrow. Clicking that with will toggle where the new transaction field will show. Top or Bottom.

    Hi Robert,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

I can see you’ve received a reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance customers.
To add to this useful information I thought it's worth mentioning that Moneydance adds the “New Transaction” line according to your current sort order.

So, if your register is sorted with the newest transactions first (descending date), the new entry will appear at the top. Pressing Ctrl+N will open the editable row in that position.

Because Moneydance follows your chosen sort order, a newest‑first (descending) view places new transactions at the top of the register. In this case, pressing Ctrl+N will display the editable “New Transaction” line at the top.

When the register is sorted newest‑to‑oldest, Moneydance inserts new transactions at the top. Using Ctrl+N will therefore bring up the editable “New Transaction” row at the top of the list.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
