Entering details (memos) for split transactions

Not sure if I'm overlooking something obvious, but I cannot enter memos for individual parts of a split transaction.

For example, if I go to the supermarket and buy some car shampoo, and perhaps some ink for my printer, as well as the weekly groceries, with a credit card, I want to enter three splits for this transaction, one for the groceries, a second for the car expenditure and a third for the pc expenditure. As I enter the transaction , I want to be able to specify the items purchased for the car and the pc so when I run reports on car expenses or pc expenses, I'll know what I've bought.

As far as I can see, there is no way to do this, but hopefully I'm wrong!

    Hi Rob

You are correct split transactions do not allow you to enter a memo for each part of the split only the parent transaction gets a memo. There has been a long standing suggestion to add memo fields to each part of the split. Here is the link in our issue tracking system:

    http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/943

The suggestion has received very little interest which is why we have not moved on it. We receive a great many suggestions and do not have the resources to implement them all. If you register and log into trac you can vote on this ticket. The more votes a ticket gets the more likely we will implement it.

However each part of a split transaction does have a description field which might go some way to meeting your needs.

    Sincerely

    Ben Spencer

Thanks for the prompt response Ben.

Glad I'm not overlooking something obvious, but disappointed that it's missing...

Thanks for the suggestion of using the description field; I'll look at whether it will do what I need.

    Rob
