I was not able to re-create this issue. Here is what I did,
which allowed me to create a reminder and successfully edit all
lines of the split.

1) Create the initial transaction with amounts that are correct
for that month.
2) Select this transaction so it is highlighted
3) Right click and select "Memorize" from the menu
4) Create your reminder in the window that appears

You have two options- you can have the program "Auto-Commit"
your transaction (meaning is is automatically added to your
register) or just be reminded of the transaction on your
homepage.

To edit the split amounts in the reminder screen
1) When in the home screen, click on the appropriate reminder (see
screen shot 1 with reminder area circled)
2) In the "Reminder Notification" dialogue box, click on the
category field (see screen shot 2)
3) Edit the splits as desired in the "Edit Splits" dialogue box
(see screen shot 3), then click done
4) This will return you to the "Reminder Notification" dialogue
box, where you can click on "Record Transaction" to record you
edited transaction.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank
you for your interest in Moneydance.

edit the
amounts from the previous month, and that was it!

I just moved all my transactions since 1999 over from Quicken
--
you're saying I must create a new set of splits for every
recurring
payment? No way! I have several bank accounts. Creating reminders
for
the homepage for every recurring payment would be a nightmare.

Also, since I have a Mac, I can't right click. What's the
option?

And where in the Moneydance Help Content is this addressed? I'm
losing
my enthusiasm here, despite the fact that the data transferred
flawlessly from Quicken 2002 and Moneydance is fast and
otherwise
seems simple enough to use.

francesoatestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/3356582009-08-29T18:10:00Z2009-08-29T18:11:18ZSplit transactions

Frances,

I apologize for the confusion. I will try to be clearer. On a
Mac instead of right clicking you use Control+ Click.

Your splits are exported when you transition from Quicken, your
reminders are not. However, recurring reminders are easy to create.
Select the transaction that you want to repeat, Control+Click, and
you will be presented with a dialogue box and can create a
recurring reminder. You can choose to receive the reminder on your
home screen and choose when to enter the transaction, or to have it
auto-committed- automatically added to your register on a selected
date. Again, you can use imported existing transactions (including
the splits) to create these Reminders, hopefully simplifying the
process.

You can then edit the amounts from the Reminder screen (as
described in previous mail) or from the register. When in the
register you select the transaction, click in the "Category" field,
where the word "Split" should appear, and then edit the amounts in
the "Edit Splits" dialogue box which appears.

The instructions in the previous email were intended to give
very detailed directions for how to edit the 3 lower lines of your
split from a reminder window, which seemed to be the initial
difficulty. Again, I apologize for the confusion.

calling
"recurring transactions" are just bills I pay every month --
the
electric bill, the water/sewer/etc. bill, the credit card bill
--
which for bookkeeping purposes I assign to various categories.
The
total amounts and the amounts of the various categories change
every
month; in the case of the credit card bill, some of the
categories
repeat each month, others don't.

Still, I will try your instructions to see whether one of the
methods
you suggest will work for me. I do wish that, as with Quicken,
the
previous month's splits would just pop up and I could change
the
amounts -- and add or remove categories -- right there!

francesoatestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/3356582009-08-29T18:52:32Z2009-10-18T21:17:06ZSplit transactions

Actually, I think you've given me the clue I needed. The trick
is
double-clicking on the Category field before trying to edit the
amount
-- I don't think I even need reminders. Cross your fingers, but
I
think this is the solution.

Is this addressed anywhere in the Help Content? I could find
nothing
about it.

francesoatestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/3356582009-08-29T19:12:53Z2009-08-29T19:12:53ZSplit transactions

Frances,

The "Edit Split" window you get when double clicking in the
category field allows you to edits amounts, as well as delete or
add new splits. I think this should meet your needs. Splits are not
addressed well in our Help content, we are working on improving it
for Moneydance 2010.
