dates are good but are not weighted as highly.

The matching algorithm looks at a variety of parameters
associated with each transaction. It then assigns a score depending
on how close a match each parameter is to the incoming transaction.
These scores are weighted depending on the importance of the
parameter and if the total score is greater than a particular
threshold then the transaction is considered a potential
match.

The reason for this is that it is quite possible that the date a
user entered on a transaction into the register by hand and the
date that the bank posted the transaction could be off by as much
as a couple of days.

To change how strongly Moneydance views the date of a
transaction, clicking the on the network tab of the preferences
window will allow you to configure the date component of the
matching algorithm. If you set this option to "Only match
downloaded transactions when they are at Most [0] days apart" the
matching algorithm will only match transactions that have exactly
the same date, or 2 days, or 7 days, etc.

When matching transactions, Moneydance keeps the date of the
manually entered transaction (not the imported one). We recognize
this is not preferred behavior for everyone. Our wiki is integrated
with our feature request and
bug reporting system. A ticket dealing with this issue can be
found here. We
now also have voting on all existing tickets, which helps us
determine which requests have the most demand.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank
you for your interest in Moneydance.

Thanks much, excellent answer.

The more I work with MD the more I think this matching feature
is one of the most important. Once I get used to how it works, it
makes entering receipt data nearly painless.

Thanks again.

marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/5410032009-11-14T14:19:41Z2009-11-14T14:19:41Zmatching transactions

BTW, is it possible to manually enter a transaction without a
date? I can't delete a date from an existing transaction.

marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/5410032009-11-14T15:46:55Z2009-11-14T15:46:55Zmatching transactions

Hi Mark

I am afraid it is not possible to enter a transaction into the
register without a date.
