An observation from experimentation: It would actually be more
convenient for my purposes if the amounts in sub-accounts didn't
roll up (perhaps optionally). I'd still like to understand what
this feature is intended for.

Shawn Willdentag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/6519982009-12-11T10:04:18Z2009-12-11T10:04:20ZHow do sub-accounts work?

Hi Shawn

I use the sub-accounts within expenses. For example, Computer is
split into Hardware, Software and Consumables. This gives me the
ongoing total cost of the computer but I can see a further
breakdown if needed. My Internet costs are in a sub-account of
Bills.

I understand your notion, and one option is to have another
sub-account called "General" or similar. This would show the total
in the account as being the sum of all the sub-accounts.

Another option is to run a report but NOT include sub-accounts.
This report could be memorised.

Colin Tomlinsontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/6519982009-12-17T23:50:02Z2009-12-17T23:50:27ZHow do sub-accounts work?

Hi Colin,

You're talking about sub-categories, not sub-accounts, and I
already make heavy use of sub-categories.

Shawn Willdentag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/6519982009-12-21T06:30:03Z2009-12-21T06:30:06ZHow do sub-accounts work?

Hi Shawn

As I mentioned ...

This refers directly to SUB-ACCOUNTS not sub-categories.

I see what you're saying. I'll have to give that a try. The big
question is how it will work with downloads and reconciliation. I
don't think it will work well, based on previous experiments.

Shawn Willden
