What I would do is deposit the check from the insurance comany
in my checking account and use the category of 'Home Insurance'.
That way I could look at the Home Insurance category, see all the
money I've been paying for home insurance over the years vs the few
$$ I've ever gotten back from them. When paying for the new TV and
home repairs, I'd just treat them like normal purchaes or home
repairs.

If typeing P brings up 'Personal', you can then type ':G' which
probably gives you Personal->Groceries (if that's the first
match for G)

I created a category called Bank Error Adjustment for that
purpose. Not sure if this is the best approach, but it's never more
than a few cents so I don't worry too much about it. Don't forget,
you can add your own categories for anything you want.

I've been wondering the same thing. So far, I've only been
entering the net income. I guess it's a personal decision of if you
have any need to track the taxes and other deductions. So far, I
haven't felt the need to do that for myself, as the end of year W-2
forms take care of all that.

I have been entering my gross plus deductions for years. On
three occasions, I discovered errors in my W-2's. One was
significant, the other two were minor. So, it really depends on
whether or not you think the effort is worth the small chance that
someone made a mistake. On the other hand, some of us just prefer
to spend our lives mired in detail.

cscj01tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/7602602009-12-28T03:27:07Z2009-12-28T03:27:07Zshort cuts, categories, and payroll checks

Thanks. I entered all my payroll deductions. Then I started
entering my husband's pay stubs. Big mistake.....he has 13 separate
categories deducted from his check every two weeks. Way too
much!

Is there a better way to keep up with those deductions than
entereing them every two weeks? That would be a lot of splits! Is
there any other way?

Thanks,
weeks. Then you will get a reminder with the 13 splits already
entered. You may have to change a few amounts when you enter the
reminder each time if the split amounts vary from check to check,
but you won't have to do it all from scratch. Be sure to memorize
one before it is cleared. Though you can clear it each time, it is
easier not to have to clear it every time.

cscj01tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/7602602009-12-31T00:10:18Z2009-12-31T00:10:18Zshort cuts, categories, and payroll checks

Ok. How do I "memorize" it?

pypeketag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/7602602009-12-31T00:19:04Z2009-12-31T00:19:04Zshort cuts, categories, and payroll checks

Never mind!
