Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

If I am understanding your question right and you are referring to a "Save" button option, Moneydance automatically saves your data as you work, making a save button superfluous.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.

and having it saved under the auto category.
Transactions are usually memorized after a
while but I’m wondering if you can do it
manually.

Jon Sartatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-10-02T15:20:38Z2019-10-02T15:20:38ZMemorize

Hi Maddy --

With all due respect, I dont' think this statement is correct.
Moneydance does not automatically save data as you work. If I add
transactions to an account, and "save" them so they appear on the
register, that does not save (automatically write) them to the data
file. A few time my LINUX system got unexpectedly halted (not a bug in
the software, just power outages). I had to re-enter those transaction
that were not saved since the last exit or the procedure below.

There is some old discussion on this matter when the "save" button from
the file menu list was removed. The solution given at that time was to
use ctrl-S to perform the save. The alternative is to close the
Moneydance application after each daily use, and then the application
will save the data file.

What has happened, by observation, is that an entered transaction is
saved to the sync file, either when entered by the "master" or from
another "slave" device. It allows all connected computers to recognize
the transaction entered by any other device. But it does not cause the
"master" file to be written because there is no event handling for it.

maybe saved is the wrong word. For example, when I type in Publix it auto
fills the category Food- Groceries. Is it called memorize transactions?

Jon

J Sartatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-10-02T20:09:24Z2019-10-02T20:09:24ZMemorize

I'm a fellow user.

No that is not memorizing it is auto completing a field.

Moneydance bases auto-completing on previously entered data, so over time it learns to correlate certain descriptions (payees) with a specific category and will automatically fill in the category field based on these. There is no list or any structure that you can add data to to affect this.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-10-03T08:43:57Z2019-10-03T08:43:58ZMemorize

Thanks for the input. MD usually picks it up but for some reason some transactions take a while.

I also would like to request this if this feature is not available on MoneyDance. I'm just transitioning from Quicken, and in Quicken you can "memorize transaction" so that you can enter the same recurring content by pulling up the memorized transaction from the list.

I enter on a loose biweekly basis, a transaction with 13 splits. Most of the values in the split is constant, but occasionally I have to make adjustments to the value. but having the basic fields filled out makes it easier to make the adjustments and enter the transaction. without this feature, I will have to recreate the splits and the values every time I do this.

so if this "memorize transaction" that is available in Quicken is not a feature in MoneyDance, PLEASE add them. This might end up being a deal breaker..

lm02tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-11-15T19:59:54Z2019-11-15T19:59:54ZMemorize

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi lm02

Two approaches you could try.

Transaction Reminders see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/reminders-2
You can highlight an existing transaction and right click to “Create transaction reminder from” thus starting the process of creating a Transaction Reminder from an existing transaction, including splits.

You can also highlight an existing transaction and right click to “Duplicate Transaction”.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-11-15T23:05:42Z2019-11-15T23:05:43ZMemorize

hi derekkent23
thanks for the info. I just tried the "duplicate transaction", but after I hit "done" to edit the splits and then return to enter the transaction, I hear the "cha-ching" sound but the transaction disappears and doesn't appear on any register...

so I tried just typing the description field to let auto-complete.. and same thing. I hear "cha-ching" but the transaction doesn't show up anywhere..

lm02tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-11-15T23:17:45Z2019-11-15T23:17:46ZMemorize

oh NVM. I force-quit MD (it hung when I tried to quit) and re-started the program and now it shows all the stuff that didn't show up.
not sure what happened but...

lm02tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476785032019-11-16T09:05:16Z2019-11-16T09:05:16ZMemorize

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi lm02

Strange.

But I hope “Duplicate Transaction” and "Transaction Reminders" now work for you as they do for me.

Have Fun.

derekkent23
