Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

I recommend creating a backup before proceeding with the upgrade, as the newer version uses a different file format and cannot be opened with the older versions once converted.

What's important to know is that if your current data set has the following format:
FileName.md

Within Moneydance 2019 it can be opened using File —> Import.(‘Import New Account Set’ from the Welcome window).

Finally, if you wish to upgrade to Moneydance 2019, you can enter your license key into the 'Upgrading?' box on this page to redeem a 50% discount. After purchasing, you'll be sent a new license key via email.

Moneydance 2019.3 (1880) is available for download at this page.
To register, please select Help --> Register Moneydance to enter the license key.
To check if the program is registered, you can navigate to Help --> About Moneydance (Moneydance menu on a Mac). In the window that opens you'll either see 'Unregistered' or your license key will be displayed.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.

Another question: will the 2011 app & data transfer to a new OS without upgrading (going from El Capitan to Catalina) as I could then keep the old version on my old computer and upgrade to 2019 on the new computer OS?

I apologize for my ignorance, I am not tech savvy, and I admit the whole process scares me a little!

Lis Brauntag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/478810832019-11-28T16:43:51Z2019-11-28T16:43:51ZUpdating from old version

Hi Lis,

First of all, thank you for your feedback.

Secondly, in regards to your question will the 2011 app & data transfer to a new OS without upgrading (going from El Capitan to Catalina) as I could then keep the old version on my old computer and upgrade to 2019 on the new computer OS?

We recommend running Moneydance 2019.3 (1880) on Catalina, as previous versions may not be compatible.

Once downloaded, the file you need will appear as a .dmg file within your Downloads folder. You should double click the file to begin the installation process. You'll then be prompted to move the file from your Downloads folder to your Applications folder.

You may be prompted to replace the existing version of Moneydance.
If not, you should manually remove any older versions of the program.

You should then navigate to your Applications folder, where you can remove any older versions of Moneydance that remain installed. Simply delete any older copies of the program. You might want to also check your Downloads folder, in case Moneydance has been accidentally installed here, and remove any older copies from this folder too.

It might be useful to re-name the newest version of Moneydance to 'Moneydance 2019', to be easier to find. Changing the application name won't effect the program or its functionality.

You'll also need to reconfigure the Moneydance shortcut in your Dock.

To do this 'right click' (or press Ctrl and click) on the Moneydance icon in your Dock and choose Options, then disable 'Keep in Dock'.

Then open the newest version of Moneydance from within your Applications folder. Once running, 'right click' (or press Ctrl and click) on the Moneydance icon in your Dock and choose Options --> Keep in Dock.

When Moneydance is running choose Help --> Register Moneydance. You can input your license key here.

Also select Help --> Moneydance --> About Moneydance on a Mac, where the version and build number will be displayed and you can check you're using the latest version. Below this, you'll either see 'Unregistered' or the license key will be displayed.

Finally, to transfer your data file from a machine to the other. You can copy and save your folder FileName.md created in Moneydance 2011 into a USB drive, for instance, and to open you old file with Moneydance 2019, navigate to File —> Import.(‘Import New Account Set’ from the Welcome window).

Please keep us posted on your progress, thank you!
