Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Please can you try the following?:

Launch Moneydance and navigate to File->Preferences and set your Theme to default.

Finally, restart Moneydance for the changes to apply.

If this doesn't revert back to the desired colours, please can you send us a screenshot of your preferences screen?. You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here - https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

Thank you

Very many thanks for your reply and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Its funny that you can look at something for years but not really ‘see’ it! When the background changed to all white after I installed the new graphics card and monitor, I was convinced that the colours for each 2 line entry had previously alternated white and green, but having played with it for a while I have now managed to get each line of one two line entry to have alternate colours – I now think that that’s how it might have been before!!

It still looks different though, but I can’t work out why. There are no gridlines between each line – might there have been before and if so can they be turned back on?

I tried changing the theme to default as suggested but the background was still all white after a re-start, so I have now customized it and set ‘registerBG1’ to light green, so it now says “Custom”. I think I am probably happy with it now unless you can advise how to put gridlines on?

Many thanks once again for your help.

Kind regards,

Yes, I think we did remove the grid lines because with the alternating colours the gridlines were a bit superfluous. However, the alternating colours are definitely still there. I wonder if you might have some high-contrast setting enabled in your graphics settings? I know on macOS there is an entry in the accessibility section of the system preferences to adjust the amount of contrast on the screen which groups together similar shades and makes different shades even more different. Such a feature could definitely have an effect on the alternating row background colour, which isn't very high contrast. Either way, I am glad you found the solution to increase the row contrast. The next update to Moneydance has better labels for each colour entry.

Thanks!

I have had a further play with both the monitor and the Moneydance settings and I think I am happy with it now (and getting used to it!) – so thanks for your help.

You possibly may remember a few years ago I had a problem with Moneydance which I think resulted from the synch process – but I don’t think we ever really got to the bottom of it? At the time, I was working away from home and using both a MacBook remotely and a PC at home. When I originally started using Moneydance (April 2013!), I simply stored the account files in a Dropbox folder but I ditched that and started using synch, which worked well for quite a while. Then for some reason it all went pear shaped and from memory, when I opened it previous transactions had duplicated and triplicated themselves and previously reconciled transactions became unreconciled, so the starting balances on the accounts were all wrong. I think you and I even spoke on the phone about it and I also had help from Henry, Tom and Scott. I can’t remember if we ever got to the exact cause of the problem but it may have been that the versions on the Mac and PC got out of synch, or the files on Dropbox didn’t update for some reason from one of the computers? The end result though is that since getting the accounts sorted, I have only ever used 1 computer for Moneydance - without any problems I might add!

I am paranoid about corrupting the datafile which has a lot of historical data in it so my reason for mentioning this is that I would like to use the synch function again so that I can use a laptop to keep it up to date when we are away. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but can you confirm whether the synch process through Dropbox is reliable? It might have been a dodgy internet connection that caused the problem before, but I am fibre at home now so that it reliable but obviously I cannot guarantee a reliable connection when I’m away; but I just wondered if you have many synch problems reported? Would you recommend trying to use it again??

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a successful New Year.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your email and I'm glad the colour thing is working out. I do believe our syncing is very solid now and we occasionally have people with very strange problems, but those are always related to very specific things about their setup. I would recommend making backups by enabling a large number of daily backups in the preferences. Once that's done, it should be safe to try syncing again, but I'd be happy to walk you through it with a screen sharing session so that we can keep a close on eye out for any potential problems.

If you'd like to do the screen sharing session, please let me know what dates and times you can be available, as well as your time zone.

Thanks!

I have set it to back up every time I open and close it so it should be OK! I’ll give synching a whirl again and will only get in touch in the unlikely event that there’s a problem. If you think it’s solid now, that’s good enough for me!

What are you doing working over the weekend!!??
