Go back to preferences and on the General tab change the Theme to something like "High Contrast" then restart Moneydance and see if it works any better for you.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-13T21:36:21Z2020-02-13T21:36:21ZText too pale

Thank you DWG. I’ve already tried that repeatedly but still the text is pale grey when I go to enter a transaction and I can’t see it clearly enough for it to be useable. I really want the text to be black. I think I’ve tried all the options without success. ☹

j3atkintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-13T21:42:54Z2020-02-13T21:42:54ZText too pale

Both High Contrast and Classic come up as black on my system for fields that are mandatory. It is important to do a restart after changing the theme used.

The other thing you can try is to customize the theme. This allows you to select the colour combinations that are used for most elements on the screen.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-14T10:08:02Z2020-02-14T10:08:03ZText too pale

That’s strange because that doesn’t happen on mine. I’m talking specifically about the colour of the text when you click on ‘new transaction’ to enter something on to the bank account. It not only comes up as light grey, but also lightens the rest of the bank entries. I think I’ve tried all combinations on contrasts including customised, closing and re-starting Moneydance every time, but nothing affects this. It may sound daft but my eyes simply can’t cope with pale grey text on a white background. I’ve looked elsewhere online and have found other people have commented on this problem too.

I’m on the verge of giving up on the trial of Moneydance and going to a different supplier because of this but I’ll wait and see what their helpline response is.

Many thanks for your attempts to help.

Best wishes

I suspect to get something that you would find useful would mean you need to use the customize option under themes in order to set colour combinations that work best for you. Alas the only approach you can use there is trial and error.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-14T10:30:26Z2020-02-14T10:30:26ZText too pale

Thank you very much. Although the text can be changed to a different colour it still comes up thinner and paler than the other text on the screen. Are you by any chance aware of a way to make it bold so that it’s more visible? Thank you.

Thank you very much. I’ll try playing around a bit more with themes but am losing patience a bit. It seems a very long-winded way of trying to make the screen legible! 

j3atkintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-14T10:51:59Z2020-02-14T10:51:59ZText too pale

I'm a fellow user,

Since themes were introduced there has been quite a number of iterations of them, some additional ones have come in along the way as well.

I suppose with what is there suits I would guess 80%. Quite a lot of users may change a couple of aspects to suit personal taste, I know a few of the contributors to the forums that have made some changes to suit their taste.

But there are no doubts there are people with specific needs where the standard themes do not work for them, fact is that is what lead to the High Contrast theme which seems to have help a lot of people, but not all. Exposing the colour elements so that users could make changes to suit themselves was a hard fought battle that lead to what is there today. While it takes time and effort to make the changes I take the position that at least they can be changed.

Sometimes just making the font slightly larger can help as well.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-14T10:54:27Z2020-02-14T10:54:27ZText too pale

Thank you for your reply. Please will you let me know how to make the font larger?

j3atkintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-14T10:56:07Z2020-02-14T10:56:07ZText too pale

Sorry, ignore that question as I’ve seen that option. It’s worked!! Brilliant. Thank you. I can see it perfectly well now. Many thanks. x

We have gone through a lot of fonts trying to find one that really works well (and we need it on three operating systems) but I do not think we have come up with one that we would say is 100% and plenty that would be just marked as failures.

Font size is under Preferences on the general tab at the bottom, the size is expressed as a difference to the default size. You need to restart Moneydance for it to take effect.

Ok so it was more a size problem then, yes I have seen that on some screen resolutions.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480879252020-02-25T16:30:14Z2020-02-25T16:30:14ZText too pale

I had the same issue with a light gray font. I changed my settings [File - Preferences - General ] to Theme: Dark Mode Font size: +8
Works good for me.

Thank you for your reply. I found making the font bigger did the trick so all is good now. Many thanks.
