First of all I would create sub categories under Property Tax for each property so you can track each individually. Then if you are paying all together, you can split the expense category to show amounts to each unique property. All that is fairly straight forward. Not sure what you issue was with batches of categories outside the transaction.

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484131712020-06-19T02:51:49Z2020-06-19T02:51:49Ztrying to learn the program so I can use it-------------

I'm a fellow user.

It is not clear to me how you are entering the transactions.

Categories are available to all accounts within the data set, they cannot be limited to a specific account or for use with a specific transaction. Perhaps you are referring to memorising a transaction for future use in which case I would suggest you look at reminders.

You might find it helpful to look at the various articles in the knowledge base about using the software, The knowledge base is effectively the online manual for the software, the entry point is:

I cannot find any other questions you have asked, perhaps they were marked as private.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484131712020-06-19T12:09:48Z2021-09-06T17:48:08Ztrying to learn the program so I can use it-------------

thanks for the response-- I have done just as you suggested, but when I enter the category under the check I have written, as property taxes, it does not bring up a split screen?? how do I enter the splits
also is there a shortcut way to find the category item desired other than sifting through the complete list?
appreciate you help-----still confused but hopefully getting there

The SPLIT function should be at the very top of your category listing popup, or you can press Control L to open. Then just add as many splits as you need and enter the specific descriptions, amounts, and categories as needed.

Here is some info from the knowledge base

The easiest way to save a transaction for future use is to right click the transaction with the split and select "Create reminder from transaction" . Or you can go to Tools, Reminders, and create your transaction with splits to use for a future date.

mhoggie
