Historical Share Price Data.
HI,
I am wanting to import historical share price data. Although I can see data on Yahoo finance and FT, I am unable to download it.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for your quick response. I have imported date from CSV files in the past, but I have had to reinstall Moneydance, and so have lost a lot of historical share price information. What I really now need to know is which sites to use to download historical security price data. I have tried both Yahoo finance and FT, but although I can see data stretching back several years, I cannot download it. So I wondered if you or your team could recommend where I might be able to download this data from?

You can try the steps below:
Navigate to Yahoo.
Enter your stock symbol.
Select the required date range and click Download.
Open Moneydance and import the downloaded file into the saved security.
Close the history window and reopen it to view the updated prices and information.

Thanks for your continuing help.
I have used the downloads from Yahoo in the past, but recently it has not been possible to download prices - there is now no "download" button. In fact, it is also not possible to copy and paste data from the site.
Any ideas that you or your colleagues has will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Neil
Depending on how much historical data you want the extension Quote Loader may help. You can get 3 months from Yahoo HD and 1 month from FT HD.

Thanks for your reply. You have helped me on several occasions in the past!
Unfortunately, I had to reformat my hard drive a week or so ago, and I have lost a lot of data. I really need to retrieve share price info for the last 5 years. I used to be able to do this using Yahoo, but sadly no longer. Any advice you have would be gratefully received!

Yahoo, Google, FT, Investing.com generally have international coverage, there will be organizations that specialize in specific markets etc as well.
It really is find what you can then look for the tools to import the data into Moneydance, it could be the inbuilt importer or the security history price load extension. The download being looked for is usually CSV files but QIF files will also work if you find any of those.

I know this is no help in your current situation but you should set up Moneydance to backup to a cloud server such as Dropbox. So if your hard disk fails you still have a backup you can restore.
I have never needed to find a web site to download historical data as Moneydance Backup to Dropbox is my way back. So as dwg suggests search the web.

Unfortunately, FT and Yahoo no longer support downloading of historical data. However, I've just looked at Investing.com, and that seems to support downloading.
I shall use the inbuilt importer, sine I cannot find the "security history price load" extension!

The extension can be found at the location pointed out by Maddy, in reality it probably should be on the extension menu.

I feel a little foolish for not having had an external source for backing up my files!
Just to give you, Maddy and dwg some feedback. The help you all gave me is greatly appreciated!
Firstly, I had assumed that the Security History Loader was included on the extensions tab, hence the confusion.
The site "investing.com" is excellent for viewing and downloading historical data going back years. It is very flexible, and you can choose daily, weekly or monthly timeframes. Most of the other financial sites were no good for what I wanted. The only (very slight) issue is that prices are given in pence, but that is easily converted on the spreadsheet.
