Do all the transactions appear to be correct, and just the
balance appears to be off? If so, you may need to set the initial
balance for the accounts. The is the balance of the account before
the first transaction that you have data for. You can edit this by
clicking on the account in the left sidebar and going to Account
-> Edit Account from the menu bar. This is the most common
reason for balances to be off for newly created accounts.

I'm not quite sure where you are referring to with the two
different balances in the last line of your question, but if one of
those was about the balance in the left sidebar not matching your
register, you may have a different type of balance set to display
there. You can change the type of balance displayed in the sidebar
in the preferences screen by going to Help -> Preferences
(Moneydance -> Preferences on a Mac).

no easy way to update Moneydance balances (shares, cash) to match
online balances.

I just spent ~10 hours fixing this by hand, after importing a
couple of decades of Quicken data. Inevitably, things don't add up
the same, and I'm not about to track why. There are 40-50 accounts
involved, each with a cash balance, but 30+ accounts have 1-30
securities, resulting in about 500 account/security balances, each
of which has to be fixed manually. This is a very bad design.

All I want is a button "Match online balance" to create
adjusting entries so that Moneydance and online balances of shares
and cash can be made to match with one click per account. That
should not be hard for a computer, but it is a nightmare for manual
adjustments.

BTW, this process needs to be repeated periodically, because
Moneydance and financial institution may get out of sync. This
happens often enough that without a "Match online balance" button
Moneydance will become unusable for me. Consider this a very strong
feature request.

Joe
