Hi

My quotes are not updating my Security/stock prices. It stopped updating a month ago and I have checked all the obvious options without success. Exchange rates update but the securities get an error message 'Error downloading...no data found'. I have run the Test but just get X History X.

Any help most welcomed

    Hi Des,

Glad to hear that you were able to get things sorted.

My Fidelity csv had a disclaimer / footer that obviously had to go. That, and removing the $'s got the extension working.

It looks like Google is doing away with personal Portfolios. I saw this on their website today:
"Google Finance is under renovation. As a part of this process, the Portfolios feature won't be available after mid-November 2017. To keep a copy, download your portfolio."

It'll be interesting to see what Sean comes up with. According to this post, he's planning on multiple sources for the Q&ER Updater.

Any CSV file from any source will work equally well; it need not be from Yahoo.
Google, Nasdaq, Fidelity, USAA, etc. all allow you to export your list of holdings
and / or watch lists to a CSV file. The problem I found with "Stock Price Loader"
is that it updates the current price only, it does NOT update the Price History.
Moneydance reports use the Price History to generate reports such as Net Worth
and more. That makes the "Stock Price Loader" extension a partial solution at
best. It should be easy to fix but that is a separate problem and separate software
that is not under the IK umbrella. It was developed by Mike Bray whose website
shows no activity since Dec 2016 as I noted above. Patience is a virtue but solving
problems is a blast. I've got Mike's code and can probably fix it eventually but
surely IK can do better . . . right Jenny?

Are you referring to "Security Detail" -> "History" -> window named "Currency/Security History"? Mine updates using Stock Price Loader. The Volume is zero, but most of my assets are funds, so they are always zero. The High & Low are same as closing for individual stocks.

If you are referring to something else I'd like to know where to check that out.

Joe, what are you referring to? In my implementation of Stock Price Loader (SPL) in MD 2017, the price updates in the Security Detail > History window as described by Jonh above. And if I click on a stock in the Stock Prices list in MD the same History window comes up, also updated. I also ran MD's Net Worth, Investment Performance, and Portfolio reports for both 10/31/17 (the last day Yahoo's API worked) and 11/03/17 (with prices updated via SPL) -- in each case the results were different for the two dates and reflected the updated prices. Please clarify.

I reported this problem to Sean the lead software developer on his Slack site and in this thread http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/2328-security-...

He has fixed this problem, so download the latest preview build of 2017 from https://infinitekind.com/preview

    Joe,
how would I update my current prices with a CSV download from Fidelity? (i have all my investments at Fidelity). Can you please explain the process. I see where I can download my holdings from Fidelity in a csv file, but how do i proceed from there?
I used the Quotes And Exchange Rate extensions weekly for over ten years to update the current prices of my holdings, i. e. I have all the historical prices up to 31 Oct 2017.
    Thanks

Fred, I am re-posting the instruction from a few days ago by Dan that I think will answer your questions.

    From: Dan Hanger

    Follow this link:

    https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2015/downloads/ <https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2015/downloads/>
Download the extension at the bottom right to a known location on your local drive, then in MD extension menu at bottom left 'add from file', browse to the saved extension file and install. Run the extension using the instructions at this link:

    https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2015/wiki/Security%20Price%... <https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2015/wiki/Security%20Price%20Load%20Introduction>

    Thank you, Ray.
reading thru the Instructions, this seems to be a possible way to go, BUT, when I went to Add the file to the “Manage extensions” I get this scary message:

"Warning: The signature on this extension is either invalid or missing. This means that the extension was not verified by a trusted party, and may have been tampered with. Continuing to load this extension may cause harm to your computer or your data.

Given the possible consequences, would you like to continue loading this extension?”

I chickened out and said NO. Maybe IK can endorse this extension, in view of the current dilemma?

Fred, I have not "Gone the whole Hog" on this either although there are many on these blogs who have. However, according to this post yesterday (see below) by Sean, the developer at IK, we should be expecting a ‘fix’ from IK soon. Now soon is what IK said for months about a fix for the check printing problem so I'm not holding my breath too much.

Fred: That warning is produced by MD because MD has not created a trust cert for this extension. There are a number of 3rd party extensions I have used over the years, I believe every one of them showed this or a similar message. After all, you can't expect IK to issue a trust cert for software they did not write themselves.

I will admit when I first installed this extension, I too bailed rather than accept. Then I went back to the original site and scanned the source code, not that I'm any good at that sort of thing, but I was looking for obvious things that may be bad.

So you have a few choices. Do nothing and stew about it. Enter the data by hand. Or do as many others here have done (I believe all are satisfied with the results): hold your nose and jump into the deep end and enjoy the swim. You will probably be glad you did.

Thanks Mike and the group. Just installed this extension and it works fine. I "export" my Yahoo "My Portfolio" to the home directory as /quotes.csv and that includes a first line of labels (Security, Price, etc.). This is what Mike's MD extension needs. (That row of labels must be deleted when using my ancient Quicken's /File/Import Prices function.)
Thanks again! It'll be interesting to see what IK comes up with.

hello, the stock quote update does not work, version 2017.5 (1639).
Can someone say what the problem is (I understand Yahoo link does not work any more) and what is the fix and how long should we wait.

This daily update is a major specification for the choice that I made to go with Moneydance.

If no fix appears, I will switch to an other application. Pls have in mind, there is real money behind.

    Tks for the update.

I've downloaded the code for Mike's extension and the libraries for the Moneydance API and have been able to compile the extension with the older API (supporting Moneydance 2014 and below, I believe). I haven't tried to compile with the new since that seems to work fine.

If there are changes people would like to see (i.e. date format from dd/mm/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy), I think I can make them and update the extension. I typically develop in other languages like C, C++ so I'm feeling my way through Java.

Is there anything one should download or update ?
    Tks.

The only thing I have managed to do is download an extension called
"security price loader" which works only for one date (no history) for
whatever stocks that are available on Yahoo or the ones that use the same
    ticker convention ...
    pls advise.

The only thing I've done is verify that I can rebuild the extension with
the older API and add it as an extension to MD 2014. I couldn't do that
with the original version of the extension that I downloaded. Now that so
know I can do that, I "might" be able to make other changes to the code.

    HI John F,

Mike Bray provides two versions of the Security Price Load extension.

One works with MD 2014 and MD 2012 the other works with MD 2015 and MD 2017.

You can reach the two different versions through the two links on Mike's Repositories, Overview page.
    https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/

If you could create a version that works with MD 2011, that would be awesome. :)

Because that's the version I use currently. I was a user several years
back when IK released a buggy, immature, not ready for primetime version
that corrupted data files and cost me and others days to recover. Since
that fiasco I have elected to stay where I am.

Btw changes could be made an applied to one extension for use with the
older API and to another for use with newer API.

    Hi Fred,

Why bother with the outdated MD2014?

Some people don't need or want the bells and whistles or the bloat that goes along with them.

I, for instance continue to use MD 2011 because it does what I need it to do. It's small, it's fast and it's rock solid.

I pulled versions from his repository and could not get them to load in my
MD 2014. The console output indicated a bad minor/major version number or
    just an outright loading error.

Do you know what API version 2011 uses? Looks like 2014 uses version 2.0

    Hi John,

Are you getting errors in MD 2011 when you try to load the extension?

No. The extension installs and loads when I click on it from the Extensions menu.

I can 'Browse' to a csv file and have it load into the 'File Name' field.

The problem is that it doesn't seem able to parse the file's columns so that I can select them from the 'Select Ticker Field' and the 'Select Price Field' drop-down lists.

    Hi jonh,

I tried reducing the csv file down to just 2 columns. 'Symbol' and 'LastPrice'. I get the same results as in my screenshot.

The changes to the MD file structure from MD 2011 to MD 2012 were significant. I'm thinking that, that is what's causing the issue.

I'm leaning towards using the Stock Price Entry extension on a weekly basis to get quotes loaded.

Mike Bray's extension seems pretty good, the only problem i have encountered on my side is that it seems to apply a foreign currency conversion on the price in the csv file.
This creates a problem if you have stocks in currencies other than your main overall currency in MoneyDance. USD prices get converted to CAD prices before being imported into MoneyDance. If only that conversion would be a switch on the front-end...
For the folks at IK (if reading this), Alpha Vantage seems to provide a free/open API for stock quotes (https://www.alphavantage.co/). Even if it means that each user has to create their own API key and enter it somewhere in MoneyDance, it seems to be a pretty nice alternative.

I'm already using AlphaVantage to grab quotes (and history) for several
Canadian and US stocks using python (and using python to import straight
into MD). It works great, and I have it doing the currency conversion
properly for my US stocks. I just use a dumb heuristic that every symbol
without an exchange is USD, the ones with are CAD.
