<p>The "standard" actions were set inadverdantly many years ago with the creation of the QIF standard, during I think the 1990's, and the subsequent use of this as the basis for downloadable transaction files. The same actions would be used in OFX files today as well. To change the action names would render downloaded transaction files unusable.</p>
<p>The use of different action names would also make it much more difficult to migrate from other software programs.</p>
<p>While the action types outside of Investment accounts are just a text string in Investment accounts they dictate how transaction are to be handled and also what fields are active.</p>
<p>I just wish that Moneydance supported more action types.</p>
