Error 999 now 403
Folks,
Starting yesterday, I started to get an error code (999), which is now 403. It says I cannot access the data. Download update stock quotes is a major part of my continued use of Moneydance. I note that Google is an option as well as Yahoo, but Google only prvides historical data. Are you working on a solution and if so, how soon might we expect to receive the update?

No trusted certificate found implies you are not using the latest preview version of Moneydance

I must be doing something wrong... I have the 2017.6 built and the r1007 addon. When I run the add-on, it errors on each download of the exchange rates, claimed it downloaded the quote prices (but nothing was updated), and reported "no history found" errors on downloading the price history...
For a full history (and perhaps clues on where I might have messed up). I tried to run the r1007 addon with the 2017.5 built, enter the Alphavantage api, and got the certificate error. I then realized I need the 2017.6 built. Installed it, the certificate error went away, but the add-on still unable to download exchange rates or security prices. I have tried to remove the add-on, restarted the app, and re-install it, but nothing changes... Wish there's a way to do a clean removal of the addon and its data (without loosing my data)....
Anyone has any idea how to troubleshoot this?
[Edit] - Not sure what happened, but the plugin is working as expected now... No changes on my side at all... Odd, but I'm happy with it.

It worked for my NYSEArca ticker, but failed for the tickers I have on
EURONEXT PARIS, EURONEXT AMS, LSE
this was kind of expected since Alpha Vantage APIs do not seem to support entering the exchange.
Also the new Test window does not show the latest price it downloaded; in previous version(s) this was an easy way to test whether the download was correct (especially with LSE stocks that keep hesitating between pound and pence quote)
(and yes I need to severely rebalance my portfolio as attached)

I’m running Moneydance 2017 (1652) and installed the new quotes and exchange rates extension from file. It indicates v1007. Clicking Update Now does nothing. Clicking Test responds with “Error while downloading : java.lang.NullPointerException”. It never asks for an API key. I’ve tried removing the extension and reloading it. Now what?

I have 2017.6 (1652) and downloaded and installed the quotes and exchange extension update (yahooqt.mxt). When I tried updating, I saw a series of errors and "service not available" captions, and apparently got no new prices. I was never prompted to go to Alphavantage. I tried to go directly to Alphavantage, but got an error page: The connection to alphavantage.co was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. I would have to say it doesn't seem to be working.

The new extension seems to work correctly for the current prices for most of my LSE stocks but the prices returned for Santander (BNC) and Kingfisher (KGF) are being multiplied by ten for no obvious reason. My exchange settings are "London: pence" which works for all my other shares.
Also the price for British Telecom (BT.A - note the "." in the ticker symbol) does not work at all. This has been an ongoing problem for many months on the previous version of the quote extension and I believe that it is due to incorrect parsing of the ".".
Historical prices mostly dont seem to work at all, but this is not of major interest to me.

Have downloaded & installed MD 201/.6 (1652) sucessfully, also new Quotes & Exchange Rates extension, following you instructions. Secured & installed AlphaVantage API, also apparantly successfully.
BUT, it's not working properly! Specifically, I own 48 securities: 43 stocks and 5 ETFs. Recall that there were three business days between when Google stopped providing prices and today (when the new extension was released) : Nov 29 & 30, and Dec 01. I expected the new extension would provide historical data for those three days plus data for Dec 04. Actual results were:
03 securities updated properly
08 securities updated only historical prices for all three days
03 securities updated only historical prices for two days (Nov 29 & 30)
02 securities updated only historical prices for one day (Nov 29)
32 securities failed completely
[Details re specific securities available on request.]

Upgraded to preview 2017 from 2014 and program not remembering passwords. Every time I open program I need to re-enter them for every acct even though I have
"forget online passwords" as an option on the Online menu (which makes it seem that the program thinks passwords are saved).

Did you set a password under FILE - PESSWORD and tick the box "Store Online Passwords in File".

Hello,
As per Phil Hudson's post above - post 127, I also cannot add the extension. I am using MD 2017.5 (1639).
I downloaded the extension from the link and dragged and dropped the downloaded file onto the MD program window and... nothing. I have tried the "Import from File" option and also - nothing.
Anyone have any thoughts on what may be going wrong here?

Thanks DWG (Post 137) - I did not realise I needed the Beta version. I Downloaded that and all worked fine. Interestingly though (for me anyway), wen installed the "Stock Quote Synchronizer" Extension, it did not add a new extension called "Stock Quote Synchronizer" into the extension list, however when I clicked on "Download Quotes and Exchange Rates Now" Extension, it prompted me for the API key from AlphaVantage.
All working OK now it seems

You need to have a preview version for the latest version of the extension to work, the current preview is build 1653, which is part of the 2017.6 series

Hi, I loaded 2017.6 (1653) and also the new extension for Quotes & Exchange Rates, I also got an API. However when I run the extension it says it downloaded 17 quotes (correct) with 17 errors - no data found. Also less than 50% of the exchange rates downloaded. Finally when I close MD and re-open it I have to re-enter Alphavatage and change the next download date as it reverted to 11/22/2017 and also re-enter the API. So I believe I did everything correctly but it does not work. I also tried using the 'Test' function in the extension and was told it was 'downloading'. After all this nothing was added to the history of the stock prices and the current price was not changed. Any suggestions ?

My experience after using the 1007 and then the 1008 versions of the Quotes & Exchange Rates extension is that it is not consistently pulling in correct values.
I guess this is more likely than not a problem with the Alpha Vantage data rather than the extension,
I have UK stocks and investment trusts and whilst on some occasions they all seem to update correctly, just as frequently some do not.
I have a spreadsheet which pulls in Yahoo prices (don't ask me how; it is a workaround produced by someone else) and each day I compare the portfolio values from this spreadsheet with those in Moneydance obtained via the extension.
On several occasions there have been differences between the two, and I have had the following:
* Some stock prices not updating ( and not the same each time - it seems inconsistent)
* One price coming back at one hundredth the correct value over a period of time
* One price coming back at one hundred times the correct value on one day only.
The net result is that I have uninstalled the extension and instead I use the Security Price Loader extension and import a downloaded Yahoo file.
The only problem I have is that unless I do this every day, I have gaps in the historical prices, so I hope a more reliable updating extension will follow.

(it does look like the price on the LSE updated when I do and drill into each security)
But how do I now know which prices have updated, at what value in the Quote and Exchange rates tools (BTW a lot of currency exchange rates fail as well with 0 returned")?
In the test window I only see that the history failed (?), but I do not see the price it got (or price download failure).

For the past two days, my US market mutual fund quotes are not current. They lag by one day.

Bill, what time of day are you updating? Alpha vantage seems to update them late in the day. I noticed the same thing when I was updating (around 6pm EST), but then Yahoo hadn't updated theirs as well at that time. But by around 9pm EST they updated just fine.

I'm running an older version of MD and up stock price updates quit working a couple of weeks ago. I was planning to upgrade to the latest version of MD but, from reading this discussion, it doesn't sound like that will really solve me problem. I ran Quicken on a PC and changed to MD when I bought a Mac since Quicken for Mac did not contain many of the Quicken for PC version. Is there any MD solution to the stock price updating problem short of going back to Quicken?

I have just run the Quotes & Exchange Rates extension to see if by delaying it until Saturday it will give correct historical prices up to and including Friday just gone.
I've not gone through each share or Investment Trust which it updated, but it somehow reduced the value of my IT holdings from around £12,000 to just £261 and a quick look at a net worth graph showed it had overwritten some or all of the previous prices and reduced my net worth by approximately £12000 right back to July 2017, with an odd spike suggesting there is some inconsistency in these errors,
Luckily I had a backup from yesterday to enable me to correct the error, which I am sure is due to some or all of the prices being wrong by a factor of 100, which I have seen previously with the Alpha Vantage data.
For me, this extension is a now a serious liability.
Is anyone else getting wrong data?

Is it a question of the Stock Exchange you have selected? A factor of a 100, the difference between London Exchange (GBP) and London Exchange (pence). Or do you think Alpha Vantage are being inconsistent in the way they are quoting pence/pounds. As a side issue as it looks like you are a UK investor is Alpha Vantage supporting all your Securities. I am finding poor support for my UK\Ireland\Europe domiciled Funds. I am experimenting with a third-party program that allows me to import into Moneydance and out of 42 funds it finds 37.

@derekkent23 Thanks for the pointer to the other thread. I am sure the fault lies with AV because until yesterday things worked reasonably well.
I am a bit puzzled by the extension's behaviour in overwriting historical data already present. All the prices were present and correct before I last ran the updater, then many were wrong after I last ran it.
A sensible way for the extension to work would be for it to ignore data already present but slot in any missing prices. And as a matter of interest, how much historic data is pulled in when the updater runs? Judging by my experience reported above of overwritten historic prices, it's about six months.
I have uninstalled the updater now and I use Mike Bray's stock price importer (sorry if that's the wrong name, I'm not using my computer at present) to import a Yahoo file, but the problem here is that to maintain a complete history, this has to be done every day, which is a pain. With the updater, the historic price import always filled the gaps if I didn't access Moneydance for a few days.
This episode is sorely testing my loyalty to Moneydance. The mobile app swings it for me at present, but if I need to load the main program every weekday to import a price file, then the app adds little benefit...

Version 1652 is no longer available from the preview pages. The stock price extension doesn't work with 1657 or 1656. Please give access to 1652 or update the extension to work with later versions.
