Extension not working
Using Moneydance 2017.6 under macOS High Sierra, the "Quotes and Exchange Rates" extension doesn't work. I get responses of "forbidden" and "error code 403" on each security. I don't want to do this manually - what might be the issue?

Hello,
Do you still have your extension set to get quotes from Yahoo? If you weren't already aware, Yahoo stopped supporting downloads to third party applications at the end of 2017.
Our lead developer has been working on adding additional services to the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension. We have had positive results with the free-to-use service Alpha Vantage, and have pushed a new version of the Quotes and Exchange rates extension that will allow connections to this service.
If you would like to download prices and rates from Alpha Vantage via this new extension you will need to be running the latest version of Moneydance 2017.
The latest stable version is Moneydance 2017.6 (1656) and can be downloaded from here.
The new Quotes and Exchange Rates is available in Moneydance via Extensions --> Manage Extensions. You'll see an 'Update' button next to the extension name.
The new extension pulls data from https://Alphavantage.co which is a free service that specifically provides an API for people and apps to retrieve prices for exchange rates and security prices.
When using the updated extension for the first time, you should select Alpha Vantage as the source. You’ll then be prompted to visit the Alpha Vantage site to claim an API key. You can then enter the key into Moneydance to begin downloading your prices and rates.
We're still working on finding and adding additional sources, but for now the Alpha Vantage support should handle the vast majority of our customer's usage.
If you encounter any issues with the new extension let me know and we can troubleshoot further.

Alpha Vantage is not working for me for any Canadian mutual funds. It works for stocks only. I have tried all kinds of ways of entering the names and the stock exchange but I get error codes on every mutual fund security. Please get this fixed.
I have gone ahead and purchased MoneyDance because it is much better than ibank/banktivity and Quicken for Mac in other areas, but I did so in expectation that MoneyDance would fix the investment download problem. It has been several months, though, and I still see no fix. I am running 2017.6 (1656), and indeed, started with it.

I am not support staff, just a user.
Can you post say 3 examples of symbols and there names that you are having problems with so I can test.

Hi, Cheryl I checked the two example symbols you provided. Nether Fund is supported by Alpha Vantage and thus the Q & ER extension can’t return a price.
There is a third-party stand-alone program which obtains fund prices and these prices can easily be imported into Moneydance.
The attached screen shot shows your two funds returning a price using this program.
Take a look at the post with a PDF explaining how to use the program, plus a link to the developers hleofxquotes website.

Hope this helps

I have had repeated issues with the updated Quotes extension (via AlphaVantage) for the last three weeks. The extension fails to return the correct closing price for numerous US stocks (such as Amazon, Alphabet, Starbucks, etc). I follow about 70 stocks and use the extension to try and download closing prices every few days, always after the market's close. Each time I run the extension, I see a brief message at the bottom of the screen reporting that there were "errors" in getting the quotes (such as "22 errors, 70 quotes obtained") The extension does not identify these "errors" so I have to manually double-check each of the quotes--which consistently reveals multiple errors in closing stock prices. It's to the point where I can no longer rely on the extension. I hope Ethan in Support or other developers can address this. I am running Moneydance 2017.6 (1656) and I installed the updated Quotes extension (and entered my AlphaVantage key) after upgrading MD to ver 2017.6. The extension seemed to work perfectly when it was first made available, but now it's just plain unreliable.
