Separating Retirement Accounts from Other Investments on Sidebar

I saw someone asked back in MD2009 for the ability to separate retirement accounts from other investments. The response was that it should be easy to do and it would be reviewed for future releases. We're in MD2017 now and I still don't see the ability to do this nor can you create a parent account to nest them underneath. Is there a way to do this so that I can group and view my retirement accounts separately from regular investments?

    Hi mbrown305,

If I understand you correctly, the only way that I know of is to name the accounts in such a way that they segregate themselves. e.g. Append a alphanumeric to the beginning of the account name.

    1-Brokerage Account A
    1-Brokerage Account B
    2-Retirement Account A
    2-Retirement Account B

    Or...

    A-Brokerage Account 1
    A-Brokerage Account 2
    B-Retirement Account 1
    B-Retirement Account 2

They will continue to be listed under the one heading 'Investments' however.

Thanks Kevin. I saw someone suggested that and it is an option although not preferable. I thought that after 8 years MD would have implemented the improvement. I would like a separate break out on the sidebar for retirement accounts which probably means a different classification than investment (i.e.Retirement). Otherwise allow a custom heading on the sidebar where I can group together any accounts I want.

    Hi,

The accounts in the sidebar are currently listed in alphabetical order only. There is a suggestion in our system, regarding the the implementation of 'Custom sidebar order'. I've attached the ticket to this discussion and will pass your feedback to the developers. We'll notify you of any updates within this thread.

Thanks Ian. It would be nice to have a user defined category in the sidebar with a choice of accounts to group underneath it.
