How to you reconcile investment accounts to your brokerage statements

Most investors receive a statement from their brokers at the end of the month and end of the quarter, but physically these reports are not available until the third or fourth of the following month. For example, my December 31, 2017 statement was received on 01/05/18.

Once new transactions are entered in Money dance, I need a way to verify that the investment account balance on 12/31/17 agrees with my brokerage statement.

Qucken does this by offering a HOLDINGS view, whose date can be set by the user. When I set the date to 12/31/17, I can see that the holdings in my investment accoount equal my brokerage statement.

I can't find how to do this in MoneyDance. If MoneyDance only reports the current portfolio balance as of today 01/18/18, then the software is seriously lacking in functionality and looks like I'll have to stick to Quicken. I purchased MoneyDance assuming that after being on the market for more than a few years, the functionality would be reasonably complete.

Am I missing something, or is MoneyDance simply not ready for PrimeTime?

Thanks,
Bob

The portfolio report can be edited to show by any date. In the report click on the edit button then change the date.

You can have this EOY report memorized. I keep each year memorized so i can compare. After you edit the report for date and confirm list accuracy, click the memorize button and name the report something like 2017 EOY portfolio. this will show at the top of the reports on the sidebar.

You can also click copy to clipboard and paste this into a spreadsheet app.

    Tom,

Thanks for your quick response, but I can't find the Edit button you
    mention.

In the Portfolio view, I can't find the edit date in either Actions, by
right clicking on the report itself, or by
clicking on Edit in the menu at the top of the screen.

Do you have a screenshot of where this is located?

    Thanks,

    Hello Bob,

Are you opening the Portfolio report by clicking on it where it is listed under your accounts in the left sidebar? If so, the Edit button will appear towards the upper right of the Moneydance window, just above the report itself.

Still can't find the edit button. Where is it? It's not in the upper
    right of the portfolio view.

    Hi Robert,

Rather than looking at the Portfolio View in your account can you try generating the Portfolio report? It should be selectable in the left hand sidebar of your Moneydance window towards the bottom and is simply titled 'Portfolio'. Here you will see the option to 'Edit' and change the report parameters.

Please let us know if you continue to encounter problems.

    Tom,

My portfolio report shows only security positions with a pie chart below.
Where is the Edit button you mentioned?

Why can't I see it in the portfolio report?

Note that I purchased and entered my license number, so this is not a trial
version and it still doesn't allow me to display my portfolio at 12/31/17.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong, or give me a link to a video of how
    to do this simple task.

    Thanks,
    Bob McGaffic

I am so sorry for the lat reply, your response was mis-qued.

It sounds like you clicked on the graph. The report section is under the graph section. See the first image.

The second image shows what the portfolio report will look like. The edit button is on the top right.
