Big Error in Capital Gains Report (?)
I purchased a new block of stock two years ago, sat on it, and sold it a year (plus 2 days) later, a simple buy N shares, then sell N shares.
When I ask for a "Capital Gains" report, M-Dance (1659) reports a very wrong Cost Basis for the sale. When I ask for a "Cost Basis" report, M-Dance gives me the correct cost basis, in agreement with the account register cost and the stockbrokers (1099 - US) report of the transaction.
It is not a small error: the correct cost is ~$115K, the erroneous cost is ~$95K.
Similar errors show up on other transactions. Any idea what is going on?

Hi jstaackpo,
I vaguely remember toying around with a Cap Gains report for some shares that I had sold a few years back. If I remember correctly, the CG report would not cooperate until I lot matched the sale.
If you haven't done so already, try lot matching the sale and see if it then resolves to the correct basis.

I stumbled on the lot matching option at one point, and forgot where it was.
Can you remind me, please.

Hi jstackpo,
Go to the 'Securities Detail' view of the Investment Account.
In the upper, right-hand quadrant, select the security in question from the drop-down list.
Click 'Edit Security'.
In the resulting window, you can select the 'Lot Matching' option.
Once you do, you should be prompted to lot match the sale.

Thanks for the location
Apparently, the lot allocator doesn't like it when I put all of the purchase in one lot (since that it what I bought). Gave me an error message: "incorrect number of shares". There was no change in (subsequent) erroneous cash value in CapGains report.
Looks like the support guys/gals have something else to add to the "fix it, please" list

Hi jstackpo,
Lot matching seems to have gotten more temperamental in the recent versions of Moneydance.
It's another in a list of reasons that I continue to use MD 2011.
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
