Updated quotes

It is now 11:54 AM Sat. 2/24. The market closed nearly 20 hours ago.
My portfolio shows all the stocks updated many hours ago.
However, after nearly 20 hours, none of my mutual funds have been updated. Why?
Is this a problem of my program or is this a flaw in the new quote update system? I would appreciate your answer.
Thanks,
Fred Abele

Updates aren't working for me either - specifically Vanguard securities. I have the latest build of MD (1666) and am using Alphavantage with my API key. Tried reentering the API and that didn't work. Some quotes are updating - but not the Vanguards. I don't even try currencies. Any idea on how to get this working again?

I just tried these symbols and the updated price matched the Yahoo Finance listed close for Friday.

For mutual funds there sometimes is a lg for the price to update.

If you run the extension now, are you still not getting the correct price?

It appears that the Q & ER extension can overload the Alpha Vantage server.

I have given up on the Q & ER extension.

I am using a stand-alone program that was originally developed to help out users of MS Money when Microsoft stopped supporting that product. The developer has adapted it to work with Moneydance and is actively supporting the program. This program is very stable and the quotes very consistent, with no limit problems and no strange prices. It has a lot of useful features. These include, obtaining prices from many stocks and fund quoted on different exchanges, US, Canada, UK and Europe. I am a UK investor and have found that Alpha Vantage provide very poor support for UK/Irish/Luxenberg etc, domiciled funds. The program has the ability to convert quotes from one currency to another. Convert prices in Pence to Pounds, if required, for UK stocks and funds. More features in the pipeline. Provide a means for importing all this data into Moneydance. Importing exchange rates.

Take a look at his thread and download the PDF outlining how to use the program and link to download the program.

    Hope this helps.

The Moneydance software is requesting quotes as fast as it can. AlphaVantage doesn't like this and thus it responds with errors. it looks like what needs to happen is for Moneydance to slow down the request rate. I see from another thread that this issue has been referred to the developer.

I just updated all the quotes. All my Vanguard quotes are now correct. However, it is Sunday morning 2/25,nearly 40 hours after the market closed.I can understand a 2-3 hour delay, but 40 hours? Totally wrong.Fred Abele

I'm finding the prices aren't updating.
As far as the history, it looks like Google is throttling some of this.
at the link which Moneydance uses to pull historical prices.

High matthewsupreme did you try the stand-alone program I suggested in post 7?
Both sources in this program return the same results, for one of them see screen shot of you example funds. Give it a go.

    Hope this helps.

Hi matt8375. Both Yahoo and Google have shut down their API. Moneydance can no longer get prices from them. The Q & ER extension now uses Alpha Vantage. For the Q & ER to obtain price you need to be running the latest build of both 2017 and the Q & ER as well as follow the link to obtain a Alpha Vantage key. If after doing this you still have problems getting prices for all your securities try the stand-alone program in post 7.

    Hope this helps

If you can use Monydance you can use this program
    Any questions just post.

hi derekkent23 i've downloaded your suggested solution, both the jar and the mxt together and they seem to work well, thank you. not a "one touch" solution from the md application but after the first setup it seems good to me, close to a "two touch" solution. thanks for the background info too, on the api's issue. i like md and its "no forced upgrade" model but this kind of thing contradicts that for me, if i have to upgrade md to get security prices in.

    Hi smith.chrisg

I guess Moneyances policy is not to deliberately kill a version of Moneydance. Over time things change and I think expecting them to go back over and update all the version back to 2005 would not be reasonably. Their approach is to offer the next version free, then a 50% discount from then on. Not a bad deal.
When you have had time to try out the stand-alone program I would be interested in your comments on how well it works for you. Can I ask you to post in this thread http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...

    Thanks.

that's true, not really a moneydance issue i suppose, just bad luck with extensions basically expiring. i'll give this a go for now, will post on that in the next week or so. thanks again.

If all was required was to add another source to the Q & ER extension then the replacement extension would work with MD 2015 & 2017 and I believe the intention would have been to go back and update the extension for the earlier versions of Moneydance. That would not have been to much work.

However AlphaVantage requires the use of a Security Certificate. there are a couple of things that can break old versions of Moneydance and this is one of them. Certificates are embedded in the Moneydance code and to add or change one requires the code to be changed and for that version of Moneydance to be recompiled. This is what is not practical, it requires time to be spent on each individual version of Moneydance and for the build environment to be intact, something I suspect would not be for most older releases.

In hindsight Moneydance perhaps should have been designed to have an external Certificate store that could be updated independently.

Hi all just for reference in case it helps future searches on the subject - it looks like the "fix" version is actually free to upgrade to if you had MD 2015 or newer. I had 2015, then used my free upgrade last year to 2017.2. But i still got 2017.6 free today anyway, and able to use the fixed version of the extension now...

    http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/problems/37689-quotes-and-..., post #8

If you would like to download prices and rates from Alpha Vantage via this new extension you will need to be running Moneydance 2017. At this time, until we release a new stable version, you will need to use the preview version of the program. For those who purchased Moneydance 2015 or more recent this will be a free upgrade for you.

    etc... thanks.

    Hi matt8375
For support or others to be able to help you will need to provide more information.
What build of Moneydance are you running, see under HELP – ABOUT MONEYDANCE e.g. 2017.6(1668). What build of Q & ER, it should be v1015 or are you using the stand-alone Q & ER. Provide say 3 symbols along with there names so they can be checked to see if I get about 10% of what they should be.

Realized it's a bit more complicated, it's in the exchange rate.
My Canadian stocks are fine, but the US stocks are wrong.

Just removed all the currencies I don't need (I only use CAD, US & Euro)

Some suggestions to narrow down the issue.

I have seen this, on occasion. It is usually the result of entering a
"divinv" where you make a mistake in either the number of shares or the
computed total dollar is wrong. The first place to look is at the
history of prices. Another easier way is to look at the the portfolio
value and click on a specif security to view the graph of prices.
Something like this seems to be a lost decimal placement.
