Cleaning up MD after a large investment account is deleted
HI,
I had an investment account that contained over 170 securities in it. Updating it over the past 3 months more than doubled the storage size of my MD file (>500mb). I figured out a way to manage the account without keeping price histories for all of the securities. So, I deleted the account, and then went into the Securities menu to delete each security, along with the price history. After doing this, I expected my MD file to shrink back to 'normal' size (~210mb). Well, this did not happen, and my file is still over 500mb in size. Did I overlook something, or is there a way to get the file back to a 'normal' size? Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Phil

Hi Phil,
Thank you for contacting us.
One thing we can check is first open Moneydance and open your data file, create a backup (File > Export backup) then go to Help > Show Documents Folder, this will display all of your data files, at this stage close Moneydance, then right-click (CTRL + click) on your data file and select the 'Show Package contains' option, then open the 'safe' folder, then open the 'tiksync' folder and view the size of the 'out' folder, if you see that most of the size of your data file is there then you can delete the contents of the 'out' folder.

Thank you, Henry. I was able to to reduce the size of of the file by 180 mb! I’ll keep your instructions for future reference.

Perfect!
No problem, 180 MB does sound like a more reasonable size, I'm glad to see that it worked out! I'll close this discussion for now, but don't hesitate to get back in touch if you have further questions or need any assistance.
Have a wonderful weekend!
