Looks like the Alpha Vantage site is down.
If you continue to have problems try the free stand-along Quote and Exchange Rate program, see post 122 this thread http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...
to obtain prices and import into Moneydance.

    Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem. Prices would just not download. MD does not even appear to be communicating with Alpha Vantage server. The stand alone solution is not acceptable. It uses Java and due to its histrory with security issues, I never instal Java on my machines. I think we will like to hear from MD as to what is going on here please.

The security issues were fixed a long time ago and as you know Moneydance is a Java program using its own imbedded copy of java. Java is probably the most widely used programming language out there, used by millions.

I understand the Alpha Vantage site is up and running again.

    Hope this helps.

Java is installed on your machine. Moneydance is using Java.

However, not all Java versions are equal! There is the open-source
version (a branch off of the original Sun version) and the Oracle
version (after the acquisition of Sun, they tried to make it not-free,
but only got so far as to make it hard to download without giving up
    your rights!

On LINUX (not sure of Apple products), hleofquotes looks specifically
for version 1.8, and not the latest version of OpenJava. Not being an
expert in version differences, do you think you can open the version
    checking to allow OpenJava?

The tool just need version 1.8 (which is specific to neither Oracle nor OpenJDK). Just start using the OpenJDK if you so choose. For example: on Linux,

    # let's say open JDK is install /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk
    $ /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk/bin/java -version
    openjdk version "1.8.0_161"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_161-b14)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.161-b14, mixed mode)

You can run using OpenJDK as

    /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk/bin/java -jar hleOfxQuotes-gui-Build_20180422_206-exec.jar

Point is you are free to choose any Java (JVM) you have: as long as the JVM support 1.8 and above.

Thank you everyone for responding. Alpha Vantage is back on line now.

But it is all very interesting information here. I'll look into OpenJava. And no I have just done a search on my Mac, I do not have Java installed. It might be that it is embedded within MoneyDance but that is installed as a package and I would hope that Infinitekind have taken the necessary security precautions. Incidentally, LibreOffice also needs Java RunTime to run the macros and it pointed me to Oracle website to get it. I refused, macros be damned. So I am assuming that Java in MD only works with MD and does not go around populating my hardrive for other apps.

I am trying to be circumspect in my answer here but if you are worry about NOT have Oracle Java on your system/disk, then that ship is already sailed.

Thank you for all of this.

It may be a different subject and if so, I will open a different thread.

    Alphavantage is now working OK.

In the UK (but probably not in the US), the LSE quotes prices in either in pence or pounds (x100). There is a choice on the website to select one or the other. However, Aquavantage sometime ignores the decision and provides random quotes, one way or the other. Accordingly , you either feel poverty stricken or extremely wealthy, until you have adjusted settings, security by security, to normalise the situation.

    Hi John.

With hleofxquotes stand-alone program you don't have the problem of the returned prices being switched back and forwards between Pence and Pounds. The two quote sources, not Alpha Vantage, don't have that problem.
For more details see post 122 at http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...

Let us know how you get on and post if you have any problems.

    Hope this helps

Thank you...that works for me. Just a note that in LINUX, there may be
two versin, one for the old 32 bit and on for the "amd64". I did not
experiment whether both would work on a 64-bit machine (or the defulat,
    which is not labelled.
