You record a fake SellXfr at the cost basis price in the from acct and a Buy in the to account at the same transferred cost basis price. This keeps the cost and gains correct.

So it really can’t be done, and the only method is to fake a workaround?

I’m only a user, but yes I believe this is the only way to do it.
