Updating stock prices - Request for Derek Kent 23
Hi Derek,
Thank you for making OFX-Update stock prices available to MD users. It downloads prices very fast and reliably, and using FT I was able to get prices for securities that I had not been able to get before using the MD extension, which I can no longer get to work. However, I am struggling with a couple of issues: (1) Is changing the OFX Account ID important and if so where do I find what I have to put in it? And (2) I cannot save the CSV file. These issues may possibly be connected. I would very much appreciate your help.
Kind regards, Robin

Hi Robin
First did you read the PDF “Hleofxquotes Program used with Moneydance 209”.
In this there is no mention of OFX. This feature is used by MS Money users and has not been tested on Moneydance.
The recommended, and fully tested method of importing quotes from the Hleofxquotes Program into Moneydance is via one of the two Mike Bray extensions, see page 4 of the PDF.
If you are having problems saving a CSV file from the Hleofxquotes Program can you give details of the steps you are using. You should be able to right click on any of the lines in the “Quote Sources Price” window and select MD - SAVE CSV to export all quotes. For CSV name setting see Edit- Export – Set MD CSV Include Quote Source Name.
What operating system is your computer using Windows, Mac or Linux. Can you confirm you are running Hleofxquotes Program build 209 and the Mikes extension are build 2038.
Can you confirm you are having no problems with the Hleofxquotes Program obtaining Quotes and they are displayed in the Converted Prices tab. That the securities symbols used are the same as used in Moneydance.
Just post with this information and we will get to the bottom of your issues.

Hi Derek,
Many thanks for your fast and helpful response! I worked as suggested to what is written in the PDF “Hleofxquotes Program used with Moneydance 209”. I only referred in my post to "OFX" because it appears in several places in both the PDF and the program. I am using Windows 10 and the latest version of MD.
I have now succeeded in uploading my stock/fund prices to the program and (with the benefit of a change in the weather!) also into MD. I had a lot of problems firstly to get the right tickers and exchanges into the program and secondly to get them into MD, because both must be the same to register the right price and value in MD. It was a lot of work.
However, everything now works correctly and I am very pleased with that. Having got all the tickers and exchanges correct, I tried to see whether MD's extension "Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater" would work any better, but it doesn't. It couldn't access any prices. I imagine the main reason is that Alpha Advantage does not offer a good service, compared with FT.
The next challenge for IK is to build something similar into MD.
Thanks again, Regards, Robin

Hi Robin
In the PDF the only mention of “OFX” is as part of the developers name and his program (hleofxquotes). Sorry you were misled into thinking you should be trying to use the OFX file format in some way. Its true for MS Money users that exactly what they do.
As my PDF states “The biggest problem is often finding the correct symbol to use”. FT and Yahoo open use different symbols even if it is only the requirement of the correct exchange symbol. Alpha Vantage presents the same problems but does not provide a search facility on the web site to help determine the correct symbol, unlike FT and Yahoo.
I am glad you got there in the end. I think you will find it was well worth the effort.
Did importing the data into Moneydance using one of Mikes Brays extension from the CSV file exported from the hleofxquotes go smoothly?
After you have used the programs a few times can I ask you to provide feedback in to main thread.

It could help the developers and me in the future updates.
Thanks
