I would like to hear from IK Support on what they're thinking. how about you?
32 Posted by Jay on 16 Aug, 2018 05:21 AM
This is now worse than ever. No only is the securities price update not working but now Moneydance will not retain the manual price entries I make since August 9.
33 Posted by dathome on 16 Aug, 2018 11:57 AM
Exactly the same problem here. I went to the trouble of manually importing data and everything looked good. Then the next day all the imported data was gone and had been replaced by the bad data from Alphadvantage.
PLEASE FIX ASAP

dathome,
Have you tried uninstalling the Quote extension so that it does not try to download prices from Alphadvantage?

Thank you very much Mike! I did as you suggested and uninstalled the Moneydance Quote extension (why is it even available if it is damaging, never mind ineffective) and followed the PDF re: installing hleofxquotes and your Security Price Load extension. Works fine with Canadian stocks/exchanges. The only criticism I would have is placement of the help box regarding entering of Moneydance Symbols that differ from the Quote Source Symbols on the bottom of page 3 of the PDF. Would be nice to have it on page 2 when entering the symbols in the hleOfxQuotes window.
Thanks again!

Hi Jay
Point taken, regarding the help box concerning entering of Moneydance Symbols that differ from the Quote Source Symbols. Its move to page 2 and will be included in the next release of the PDF.
Really glad the hleofxquotes program and Mike Brays (not Mike V) extension has worked for you.
I suggest to go to the main threat here http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...
And make certain the “SUBSCRIBE TO UPDATES” box is tick so you don’t miss out on a major change that is in development.

My apologies to Mike Bray for that oversight, credit should be given where due. Thank you Mike Bray for the extension.

I am having the same problem. This extension is completely unreliable.
Hey Infinitite Kind: What are you doing about it????
40 Posted by dathome on 19 Aug, 2018 09:58 AM
I'm getting a bit annoyed now. So the quote downloader that uses Alphadvantage is now useless. OK. So I decide to stop using it, uninstall it, and manually import data from my broker equity by equity. All good. WELL NOT QUITE. I can import the data but whenever I close and reopen Moneydance the data I have imported disappears. WTF. What can I do now. I currently have no way of keeping stock prices up to date.
INFINITE KIND FIX THIS NOW.

I'm a fellow user.
The problem with keeping prices has been reported in other threads, it is reportedly corrected in a latter preview release but there appears to be a problem in posting this release to the preview site.
Reverting back to the previous stable release should correct the price saving issue for now.

I am using iMac High Sierra 10.13.6 MD 2017.8 (1691), hleofxquotes 219, and Bray's securitypriceload.mxt 2041
I run hleofxquotes jar to load the current prices of all my securities, save to a MD cvs, run the securitypriceload extension in MD to update the prices. Everything stays current.
It is crucial that the MD Quotes loader NOT be installed.

Hi All,
Sorry to hear you're encountering issues while using Moneydance. Alpha Vantage have introduced a new premium service, the details of which can be seen on their website here - https://www.alphavantage.co/premium/
We needed to make some adjustment in the extension so it can accommodate this new service and prices can download smoothly. Downloading may appear a bit slower in the new version but shouldn't result in errors, this is because Alpha Vantage's free service allows 5 requests per minute. We have just published v1020 of the extension. This version should improve things for some customers but we're still tweaked the extension and hope to release an optimised version soon. I'll ensure you're all notified when this new version is available.
Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

I appreciate getting the update, Ian O, but your presence here is long overdue. What is it now --- about a month since this started?
But I don't understand? Are you modifying the MD extension so that it works with the Alpha Advantage Premium Service, to which we will have to subscribe individually? Or are you modifying the extension so that it accommodates the 5 requests per minute - hence slower - of the standard, free service?
I frankly don't care if it takes 2 or 5 or even 20 minutes to download. It would be nice to modify the extension so that I can select a time-of-day for the download, but even that really isn't important.
And I do understand that if I must subscribe, I always have the option to go with the hleofxquotes standalone from Derek.

Dave,
If you update the extension in MD to the new version the quotes should download properly. I tried it this morning and 36 quotes took about 10 minutes but they all downloaded without error. You do not have to pay for a new service.

Thanks, Bill,
I was successful, too, as far as I can tell. I can't [don't know how] to see all of my active holdings, current price, and price date in one report. But spot-checking, it appears they all updated along with the missing history for the dates it wasn't working right.
48 Posted by dathome on 24 Aug, 2018 11:26 AM
The extension may have been updated but it still isn't great. I don't mind waiting for the download but why is the downloaded data for some equities garbage. For example SEC.AX. The data was good until about April 2018, but after that there are periods of several months when there is no data. Why? I can import the correct data but whenever I rune the extension again it overwrites the imported good data with incomplete garbage.
This is still not good enough. Can this be fixed please?
49 Posted by davet65 on 24 Aug, 2018 05:39 PM
What happened to the option to include, or not include, History?
It seems like saying No to History, and not doing anything but putting in the new, current price, would solve this problem.
50 Posted by red on 24 Aug, 2018 07:36 PM
I've got the stock prices to update OK now. However, I have other investments which I do not update automatically (never got it to work, but that might be because I'm in the UK).
My problem however with these other investments is that when I enter them MANUALLY, they do not 'stick' in the history. It shows the correct current price and value, but the history never updates. The history stops at the 25th July, so around the same date that others report.
To reiterate, I don't update these using the Alphadvantage route (they are unticked in the Q&ER window. I've updated the extension to the latest.

I had 3 investments out of 14 that had not downloaded prices since 7/27/18. I downloaded v 1020 of the extension on 8/24 and ran it. One of the three missing investments updated but not the other two. Today, 8/25, I ran it again. The process took probably 5-6 minutes but the additional two investments prices were downloaded!
However, I noticed a phenomenon that I have seen a number of times previously. Running the extension on a Saturday usually results in Thursday's prices being downloaded, not Friday's. After the run today, all prices are from 8/23 except the two that had not previously downloaded. Those two have 8/24 prices! Although I have not carefully evaluated the issue, I think the issue of day old prices is limited to a running the extension on Saturday.
If it matters, all securities are mutual funds. The system is Mac OS 10.13.6 and MD 2017.8.
52 Posted by bonniemitch on 26 Aug, 2018 02:41 PM
Mutual funds trade only once a day—after the closing. Mine show the previous date.

I am well aware of when mutual funds trade. You missed my point that I was downloading the prices on a Saturday, actually early afternoon EDT, and was getting Thursday's prices. The exception was the two that had not been downloading prices since the end of July. Those two got Friday prices. Apparently the updated version of the Quotes extension has resolved the issue of failure to download some quotes at all. I have observed the day behind quote issue some time ago when running the extension on a Saturday.

Think we have all reached the same level of frustration with MD. Without a bunch of effort none of us know which of our holdings have been updated and when. Hopefully IK will get the issue resolved because it appears they are still claiming their MD program tracks investments and downloads them. I have noticed a discrepancy between the Net Worth in the top bar of the home screen and the Net Worth Report along the left column. Something has sure gone haywire within this program. I personally do not trust the info and reports anymore.

The only way to tell the price update date, as far as I know, is to examine the history of each investment. I have observed some anomalies occasionally with stock price updates which, of course, affects the net worth calculation. When I launch MD, the investment prices are updated, according to the message line across the bottom of the screen. A few times I noted that the entries did not match the listing from my mutual fund firm. I could then manually run the price update extension and the correct prices would then be downloaded. I believe all of the discrepancies, for me, have revolved around the download of the latest security prices. There have been issues with the computation of various investment returns but that is another, more complex, issue.

I'm a fellow user.
Yep, had noticed the same thing on occasion, but it seems to be a
rounding error. After your comment, I checked all of the fund account
balances (I am a US mutual fund investor) and traced it back to a singe
fund that I have been using for my RMD (US residents over 70 1/2 must
withdraw a determined percentage from their IRA each year. I suspect, bu
the looks of it that the networth in the summary is by ending balance
(current price times current balance) while the netowrth report does a
bit more by transactions, i.e., each buy (date of purchase date x number
of shares) added total less each sell (sell date x number of shares).
Since the funds (not sure of stocks) round to 4 decimal places, but MD
does 6 decimal places, it is going to be different. Reconciliation at
tax time for buys/sells have (I think) been mentioned before in this
forum as an issue. In my case it never amounted to enough to get the
Feds interested (pun intended).
I hope this helps clear things up. My accounting professor use to
attribute it to the account WITTB (what it takes to balance).

bonniemitch:
I have posted recently in connection with this share price update problem that MD NEEDS a "report" that lets us see the latest price and date for active holdings.
And I have used MD for >10 years and have NEVER had any faith in rate-of-return for investments. Now that I can run Portfolio Report by going back to Build 1671 [another investment report problem discussed elsewhere], and just as example, I have one account with only 1 holding and a rival amount of cash. The All% for the holding is 7.76%; the All% for that Account is -18.08%!!! I may well have mistakes in the transactions, but I am a fairly literate investor and seek to make my running balances of cash and holdings in MD match those in the account info from the investment firm. MD's handling of investments is lacking something somewhere; it is not rigorous. But I live with it because I like the rest of the program, and the $ amounts for investments are correct.

Hi
You may be interested in a new extension which downloads stock prices. It is built on the back of my Security Price Load program. Have a look at my Wiki and follow the links to extensions. The new extension is called Quote Loader.

Wow! Nice work, Mike Bray....
Install instructions a bit confusing, but do-able:
(1) Just because you are running hlxOfQuotes as a java application, one
must still download and folLow the online instructions. Just a case of
"reading the manual"/
(2) When first starting, one must specify the source for the quotes for
_each_ of the securities. Just trying to check for prices will not work
otherwise.
(3) Once prices are loaded (nice job with the colors), follow up with
the check for which securities to be loaded, or the bottom one for all.
Definitely a time saver.
Thank you
