Entered wrong number of shares - now stuck in lot selection

I'm using Moneydance to track investments, using log matching. (Version 2015.3 build 1175 on Mac OS X).

I accidentally entered a transaction in the register where I sold more shares of a security than I own - basically just picked the wrong security. Now I'm stuck at the pop-up dialog asking me to match the shares sold to shares purchased - except that I can't, because there aren't enough!

If I click "Ok", I get told to match the shares. If I click "Cancel", the same dialog comes back up again. Can't get around it to delete the transaction. Quitting and restarting the app gets me back to the same place.

How do I get rid of this transaction and get back to a good state?

    Hi dpassage,

    Try this...

Temporarily disable 'Lot Matching'. To do so, from the Moneydance Menu bar go to Tools > Accounts. (not Securities)

In the resulting window, locate and highlight the investment in question. Click 'Edit'
The following form will allow you to de-select 'Lot Matching'.

FYI, the version of Moneydance that you are using is an older build. If you did NOT purchase Moneydance through the Apple app store or some other third-party vendor then you can update to the latest version (currently build 1299) from here:

The 'Lot Matching' issue that you're experiencing along with a multitude of other issues have been resolved in the latest update.

Computing 101 dictates to make sure that you have a backup of your data before updating.

    Kevin, thanks for your response!

So your first solution didn’t work for me - the lot matching pop-up prevented me from getting to any other menus other than the Moneydance menu.

However, upgrading to build 1299 did. I was then able to cancel from the dialog and delete the erroneous transaction. So my issue is now fixed, thank you!

Incidentally, it seems like the lot matching popup isn’t consistent. Sometimes it appears immediately when I enter a sell transaction; most of the time, though, I have to go to Securities Detail in the investment account and then select the investment I just entered before the pop-up appears. Is that a known issue?

    Thanks,

    -David

    Hi David,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get things sorted.

    Is that a known issue?

I have to say that in my testing of MD 2015, I've not really experienced that issue but I confess that I do not use MD 2015 on a daily basis. My version of choice remains MD 2011.

Perhaps Moneydance Support or another user can speak to that issue.
