Stock Quote updates
I haven't been able to update stock quotes since I upgraded to version 2017 back in early 2017. Current version is 2017.8 (1619). The extensions do nothing.

Try updating to the latest preview build - currently MD 2017.9 (1695)

Also, make sure that you are using the latest build of the Quotes & Exchange Rates updater extension - currently v. 1020.
Make sure to set the appropriate drop-downs in the Q&ER updater to AlphaVantage. You DO have an API key from AlphaVantage? Correct?

I have the same problem. I've had it for months now. Tried the latest preview build countless times, and always on the latest Q&ER extension.
Without current stock prices, this product is quite deficient. Can someone from the MD support team please explain why this is issue is taking so long to fix? Is the problem at least well understood?

Take a look at this post from forum member derekkent23. He provides an in-depth PDF instructional guide for a couple of third-party extensions that were created by Moneydance users.
At first, it looks daunting but the apps involved are straight forward and easy to set up and use.
I could go on but the PDF explains everything.

I am aware of the external update tool, but it's unacceptable to me to rely on an external tool. This needs to be fixed.

I've been successfully updating prices with the 1020 version of Quotes and Exchange Rate Updater with the new Alphavantage connection. In the last week or so, many of my updates fail. I can add them by hand with the Security Price Entry if I get the current price some other way. I don't understand why about half of my updates fail.

I agree that ideally MD would have built in services to update securities prices and exchange rates. However, Yahoo turned off their free service. Since then InfinteKind has been looking for a service to provide the data. For the USA there is Alphavantage, however, they too have reduced the free service.
The way I see it is that the cost of Moneydance is relatively low, effectively $49 for 2 major releases (about 2-3 years) and support is free. I think we are getting a lot for the money. There is an active user community that not only help people with how to use Moneydance but also add to the functionality through extensions.
There are a few ways of getting prices, one which is ‘offline’ and now one that competes with Quotes and Exchange Rates extension that uses Alphavantage. Remember the Q&ER solution is an extension so effectively is an external solution.
You can take a stance that InfinteKind should fix everything but In my opinion you will be waiting a long time. Alternatively you can become part of the community and use the help and tools available.

I can enthusiastically endorse the external third party system that has recently been made extremely easy to install and use. You install two extensions, drag a jar file to the MD window, and that's all. It works, it's fast, and it's easy.

I have released build 2110 of the Quote Loader. This introduces automatic running. You can run the program daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.
