Moneydance losing investment price and currency updates
Hi This is a really weird bug. I update my investment prices every Sunday so have a history of weekly Sunday updated prices for a number of years.
I've just noticed the values I entered Sunday 26/08/2018 (UK date format) have disappeared the same is also true for values I entered on Sunday 29/07/2018. I have tried entering prices on dates ranging from the Monday before to the Saturday after (i.e. 20/08/2018 to 01/09/2018) and in each case the entry disappears after I close the investment history entry screen and then reopen it. The problem doesn't seem to have happened prior to 29/07/2018. In effect I am unable to update prices for the week before the last Sunday of the month and the week after.
I also update currency rates in the same way every Sunday. It seems the same thing is happening, but this time the issue only started on 29/07/2018. The information for 29/07/2018 is still there. I have GBP as my base currency and I track Euro and USD.
I am using a MacBook Pro and the Moneydance version is Moneydance 2017.8 (1691). I can't remember when I updated to this version. of Moneydance, but I suspect it may have been in the last couple of months. So it is possible the issue didn't exist in the previous version.

I am not support staff, just a user.
Assuming you purchased direct and not from Apple then try the preview build at

Hope this helps

There is definitely an issue with 2017.8 (and 2017.9). Security prices imported via a custom python script or the "import via csv" do not stick. They show up after import, in the history tab and the plot, but as soon as I quit the program and then reopen they are missing. Interestingly enough, if I manually edit a price in the history table, it does seem to be permanent.
I have reverted back to 2017.7 which does not have this problem.

I'm a fellow user, according to other threads the developers have been made aware of this issue

Hi
How do you revert? Others have suggested 2017.9 but this is beta and has same problem.
Thanks

Whenever I upgrade, I ALWAYS keep a copy of the old version of the app, so I just replaced the new one with the old one. Since there did not seem to be any changes in the file format, my data files seem to work with the reverted app, even though I had entered transaction with the later one

Thanks. I’ll have a dig around my downloads folder to see if I still have it. Good to know it won’t cause any problems. I’d be more concerned downgrading from a 2017.n to a 2016.n

Unfortunately that's the versions with the issue. I need to downgrade to the previous release. Unfortunately when installing on a mac, if you follow the instruction on the MD website it removes the downloaded file as part of the installation process, so I have no means of going back. I’m not sure how prevent this happening in the future, so I can keep the old version until I’m happy the new versions is working OK. I’m new to Mac, on Windows it was fairly easy as each downloaded file had a different file name and it wasn’t removed in the installation process.
I do regular backups using the Mac backup utility. If I go far enough back (i.e before I installed 2017.8 1691) will I be able to find the previous version of the application and if I do can I just replace the existing version?

In that case 2017.7-1 can be found at:

Thanks. All now sorted. Good job I kept copies of the relevant investment data, so all I needed to do was re-enter, bit of a pain but………..

This issue is still happening in 2017.10 (1700)
I also use Mike Bray's 'Security Price Loader'. Everything works perfectly using this method. However, manually-entered quotes seem to disappear when MD shuts down.

From: Steve Primost,
I am not part of MD Support
There is a curious "feature" to MD in some cases while trying to add or
modify information through the screens: The input does not take if you
make a change, or add information, and do not tab to the next field
before clicking on the submit.
I have seen this curious behavior when selling stock, and having to
alocate shares to the sale.
Just saying. It might be worth a try; not saying that the program is
correct in its present behavior.

Thanks Steve,
I hear what you are saying.
There is not really any tabbing involved with manually-entered Currency/Security History quotes. I have noticed though that if I edit the quote (eg change the date) before exiting MD then the manual quote is saved.
I hope the development team resolve this some time in the near future.
Thanks for your comments.
Regards
Neil
