Does newest MD download daily security prices?
For years I enjoyed the daily update of my securities through Money Dance. More recently that function stopped working on my program. Does the current new version of MD that I would buy on your website update security prices?

Moneydance now uses a new free source for quotes Alpha Vantage. For many this works well, but is very slow in obtaining quotes, restrictions imposed by Alpha Vantage, not Moneydance to about 4 quotes per minute. For other it provides poor coverage for there securities. There is however a third-party extension system that is free, fast and provides excellent coverage. Thank you. I need to update MD and resolve a price file retention issue (separate thread) first, but I will give this a try and share my experience.

For information other users that have problems with price that have been manually entered and lost after a Moneydance restart report that this is not a issue with prices automatically entered using the Quote Loader.
what version and build of Moneydance are you running. What is your computer operating system.

MD 2017.8 (1691) this may be a beta, it was installed when I was working another glitch some months ago.
working on a current update of MD.
I am expecting a major Mac iOS update any day. I’ll want to settle the iOS updates before doing the MD update and price extensions.
My main MD problem now is that my manual price updates post normally, and I can get updated reports in the usual way, but when I close MD and reboot the prices all revert to the same mid July date. The just entered manual updates disappear. They won’t survive a reboot. I’m hoping that installing a clean MD program will fix this. I have a “private” support thread working this issue.

For info 2017.8(1691) is the current release. If you purchased direct not from Apple the latest preview build that fixes bugs is 2017.10(1701) from https://infinitekind.com/preview

Thank you for your help. I have had internet service problems that have taken all my time, but I will check the quote loader system.
FYI, my manual price posting continues to lose prices when I reboot my system. But if I sell a stock, or through DivR buy some shares, those prices continue to post in the usual way and I am testing but it seems that they do stick permanently.
So if that proves out the problem is narrowed to prices posted through manual posting to the security detail / History / New process. And those prices will hold for a session, only to be lost somehow in the file / save and reboot process. Bewildering.

1. MD still does not download security prices. AND
2. MD will accept manual posting of security prices, manipulate and post reports with the values, and then LOSE the manually entered security prices on a cold boot.
In interim:
updated to Mohave 10.14
updated to MD 2017.10

I have not worked Quote Loader, but I'm getting ready to try. I worry that Quote Loader will work as presented, but my program will erase the new prices as soon as I do a cold boot, as it is above with the manually entered prices. Any comments?
I have not been able to use the MD security pricing features since mid July. Sure would appreciate some help.

I you were to read the entire 164 posts in the Quote Loader thread I don't think any of them talk about loss of prices after closing then reopening Moneydance. In fact a number of user moved to Quote Loader because they were having problems. Never say never or it cant happen. It will be interesting to see if you encounter any problems when you try the Quote Loader. If it does not work for you, you have lost nothing, but if it does work, well a step forward. Let us know how you get on or if you need any help getting up and running.

I'm a fellow user.
Stating the point release is only definitive if we are talking about Stable releases, with preview releases it only indicates the branch, the build number is the import thing here.
I would suggest including he first half a dozen lines or so from the console window as that gives a good overview of the system, including the OS and the exact Moneydance version.
The latest version of the Q&ER extension includes two new sources - IEX trading should be useful for US stock prices, and the European central bank for exchange rates.
The alternative that Derek discusses uses two other sources.

How do I get to the preview (1705) release of 2017.10 please?
When I go to upgrade IK says the latest release is 2018.8 - going backward.

With preview releases you can only download the most recent one, there is no library of all releases, so the most recent preview release is built 1706, fixes are cumulative.
But as it so happens in this particular case Build 1706 is also the most recent stable release, so you can just download and install the most recent stable release and see if it helps you.

As you suggested, I downloaded Build 1706, manually entered two test prices under the “history” button, Quit MD, restarted MD, and the prices were still there. Then I did a full “Shut down” of my Mac, restarted and reopened the new MD. For the first time since July the prices were still there.
I could not be more pleased and hopeful. I have several statements to post so I will have a pretty thorough test this coming week and I will post the results.

So far so good. I have entered a bunch of stock prices over two days and so far the prices are sticking and surviving re-boots.

The stock postings are continuing to function as they should. I have since made many entries (all manually or via register entries) and they have been posted to the stock's detail price history correctly.
Thanks to IK tech for making program fix 1706 and to dwg for helping me find and make the update.
This support over the years has been an essential part of my satisfaction with MD, and as a result I am working with four different MD systems in my family and homeowners association.
I suggest y'all close this discussion but leave it out there for others who may need it.
