Hi Melissa

Mike Brays "Security Transaction Loader" is a completely different extension from Quote Loader. Its purpose is to Loads miscellaneous transactions for an investment account from a .csv file and can be configured to match the keys in the .csv file with Moneydance transaction types.

The purpose of the Quote Loader, the subject of this thread, is to obtain security prices and load them into Moneydance.

Can you explain further what you are trying to accomplish?

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-03T07:35:07Z2019-10-03T07:35:09ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

Thanks. Yes. I know it is a different extension. I am trying to upload
my investment transactions from the banks. They only provide csv files.
I am sorry if I was not clear. I am actually trying to use both extensions

Melissa Aboitiz Elizaldetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-03T07:58:57Z2019-10-03T07:58:57ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Melissa

OK understood.

Can you start a new discussion on the subject of the extension "Security Transaction Loader" explaining your issue and I will see if Mike can take a look.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-03T08:07:30Z2019-10-03T08:07:30ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

Hi Melissa
As Derek has said and you have worked out the Security Transaction Loader extension is a separate extension. It's purpose is to load transactions to do with dividends, management fees, loyalty bonus etc. It does not load buys and sells. If, as Derek suggests, you raise a query either in this forum or the Extensions forum I can help you further.

I am pow trying to update the security prices (the ones that are not available from yahoo or ft). I want to use a csv file. I tried to use the Security Price loader extension. It loads the csv file, but does nothing after that. Attached is my csv file

Melissa tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-09T14:47:20Z2019-10-09T14:47:20ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Melissa

The issue seems to be with the way the CSV file is formatted.
If you open the file in a Notepad ++ text editor you will see the data for each security instead of being on one line is split into three lines by two LF (line feeds). See screen shots. Note if you open the file in other types of text editor you may not see LF, but you should see each single line split into three.
As a test I deleted all but the first three securities and edited these to remove the LF’s. see screen shot.
I set up a test Moneydance data set and using Security Price Loader the edited CSV file imports correctly.
I will ask Mike if there is a better way forward than having to edit the CSV file to get it into the correct format.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-09T16:12:54Z2019-10-09T16:12:54ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

Hi Melissa
Derek is correct the extension relies on there being one line per price. It reads a line at a time and tries to process it. I don't know of a quick way to change this.

I used Excel's 'Text to Columns' feature with your BondPositions_(1).csv file and was able to position each security on a separate line.

I saved the file as BondPositions_(Edited).csv.

If you want, give it a try. Be sure to use it on a copy or backup of your data file, just in case.

Hi Melisa

After testing Kevin’s method, the obvious occurred to me.

When the CSV file is open in excel simply delete the “Instrument Description” column, column B and re-save under a new name, then use the Security Price Loader.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-09T23:37:00Z2019-10-09T23:37:01ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

Thank you. I saved the file as csv on excel. How should I save the file?

From what I've read, it seems that the system will only import the current day's security prices, but not past (historical) ones. Is that true?

Since I use MD as a portfolio aggregator and only print out a quarterly report, it has some short-comings for me. Most days I do not open MD, so I would not create meaningful security price graphs. Also I would have to be careful not to miss opening MD on the last day of each quarter. Is there a non-manual way to get Quote Loader to import historical prices despite not opening it daily?

In the past, I've used the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension with Alphavantage, but this no longer works consistently...many securities are skipped.

feffer777tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/467295682019-10-21T07:17:53Z2019-10-21T07:17:53ZQuote Loader Security/Currency price loader for Moneydance 2019

Hi

You are quite right Quote Loader only imports current prices. You can
import historical prices via my Security History Load extension but you
will need to create a csv file of the prices. See
