When and why does MoneyDance update the Current Price of a security, or more precisely, why does it stop?

Here's my situation:

I get various confirms from brokerages and insurance companies showing how many shares of a security I have bought and at what price. I have to enter these manually into the Register of the account.

If I go to Securities Detail and press the 'History' button then I see each price I entered on each date as you'd expect, and also a Current Price field. My issue is sometimes the Current Price updates to the last entered price and sometimes it does not.

Why does it only sometimes update? What triggers it?

My gut feeling is for newly created securities it starts off updating automatically every time I enter a Buy/Sell in the Register. But, If I ever need to fix it, that is if it ever type in a price by hand in the Current Price field, then it gets stuck on that price forever and never updates again, no matter how many Buys and Sells I enter in the Register.

Can this really be so? Is there a trick for getting automatic update back?

    I'm a fellow user.

I would suggest for entering security prices by hand including the current price you might try the Security Price Entry Extension and see if you get better behaviour.

I enter Security price data automatically using Quote Loader. But from memory the issue is that other than the first buy the security history is not updated based on the next buy or sell transaction. In the history window you have to click IMPORT and then with IMPORT FROM TRANSACTIONS selected click IMPORT.

    Hope this helps

@derekkenet23—thanks, I have never noticed that button before. That certainly helps fix the problem after it occurs.

Still wondering why it is sometimes automatic and sometimes not.

After a buy or sell, I update Security history price windows automatically using Quote Loader, so cant be certain of the following. It my belief that at one time buy sell price were passed to the price history window but then the process was changed by adding the import button such buy sell prices were no longer entered automatically. I seem to remember the change was made at the request of a large number of users.

    Hope this helps.
