(I'm using licensed v2019.3.) The actual transaction was a direct transfer of the shares, not sell shares -> transfer cash -> rebuy shares. Is there a way to enter this transfer in Moneydance?

Stevetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/478641372019-11-24T02:20:24Z2019-11-24T02:20:24ZTransfer shares from one account to another in Moneydance

I'm a fellow user.

Sell shares at cost price -> transfer cash -> buy shares at cost price it the only way to do this in Moneydance.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/478641372019-11-24T11:13:56Z2019-11-24T11:13:56ZTransfer shares from one account to another in Moneydance

Thanks for the info. In this case, both accounts are 401(k). Does it matter whether I use cost basis vs. current price (as if I actually sold and re-bought the shares)? Determining the cost basis would be complicated, because the original contributions were bi-weekly for a few years, i.e. a whole bunch of purchases at slightly different prices.

Stevetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/478641372019-11-24T19:42:28Z2019-11-24T19:42:28ZTransfer shares from one account to another in Moneydance

I only suggested cost basis to allow for the possibility to get a correct Total investment return if you wished. The securities detail screen should give you the average cost per share in any case, but if you just want to monitor the value you could use any price you wished.

This is one of the Investment Transactions that Moneydance should have the capability to handle properly.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/478641372019-12-06T19:23:44Z2019-12-06T19:23:44ZTransfer shares from one account to another in Moneydance

The fake sell and buy using the actual cost basis ensures that the correct cost basis and gains are correct (zero in this case) even if 401k

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)
