Updating investment account register with unit details and obtaining subsequent price updates
I am a new user having just purchased the Moneydance software. Within the investment account I have created I can see that all five of the new securities I have created are listed. In order to input the unit information, your notes state to go to the "securities detail" tab and then click "add security". When I do so, no securities are listed in the drop down option box. I am also unclear what I need to enter in the register. I have set up the quotes and exchange rates update and have obtained my API key. Having chosen "advanced" and tested the update, nothing seems to have happened. For whatever reason, the securities I have created are not listed. I have, of course, ensured that "alphavantage" have been chosen in the drop down menu for exchange rates and prices information. I have used Yahoo! Finance UK for the ticker reference for each of the five securities. Finally, each security has a security ID. What am I required to enter in this field? Many thanks.

Hi Alan
Before trying to sort out your issue, an outline of the process is:
I understand this is the step you are having problems with?
As a first step in sorting things out can you post a screen shot of one of your securities under TOOLS – SECURITIES and double click on one of them then EDIT to give Edit Security windows, see screen shot. I use the security name as the Security ID as you can see in the screen shot.
It sounds like you are in the UK, as am I.
The quotes and exchange rates update does not really support UK funds or funds outside the US.
Fortunately, there is the free third-party Quote Loader. Both of the sources in the Quote Loader (Yahoo and FT) have good coverage of worldwide securities including the UK.
See post 205 at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4039-quo...
Download the PDF attached to posts 205 and have a read.
To get an overview take a look at the YouTube video by using the link on page 1 of the PDF.
Hope this helps.

Hi Derek
Many thanks for your very helpful response; it is really appreciated!
I have been able to add all five securities to the investment account and have ensured that the correct security ticker symbol has been inserted (in all five cases this is the ISIN). I have also taken your advice and installed the Quote Loader, having firstly uninstalled the quotes and exchange rates updater extension.
However, I'm still stuck on two things. Firstly, the securities I have added to the investment account do not appear in the quote loader tool. Is this because I have described them as mutual funds instead of stocks? I can't see any other reason why they are not listed. The currency updater is working fine and I've selected daily updates. Secondly, with regard to entering a transaction in the register, I am not able to select the relevant security or input the number of units. The only input field available to me is for a monetary amount. All I really wish to do is input the current number of units and manually update them from time to time (i.e. I don't intend to input each and every transaction).
I hope you can help. It takes some getting use to but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end! Thanks again.
P.S. Yes, I am in the UK.

Hi Alan
Quote Loader. Securities will not normally appear in the Quote Loader window if you have not performed a Buy or BuyXfr transaction in the investment account register on these securities, see screen shot of investment register. You may have noticed an INCLUDE ZERO ACCOUNT tick box. If this is ticked securities that are not held in an investment account will be included.
Almost all of my securities are mutual funds and are described as such and have an ISIN ticker symbol. See example Royal London FT350 Tracker Fd Class Z Inc, ticker GB00B523R000 in on of the screen shots in my earlier post.
If you post some of your ticker symbols, I can test to confirm they are supported by Quote Loader.
All your issues stem from the fact you have not yet done a Buy or BuyXfr transaction in Investment Account Register tab.
A Buy is when the money for the purchase comes from a cash account of the investment account. Money is transferred from the Investment Account Bank Register tab. You can fund this account by transferring money from a normal bank account.
A BuyXfr is where the money is transferred direct from another normal bank account to fund the buy.
I don’t fully track all my transaction details, dividends etc, so I set up fictious Bank account “Fix Investments” as a work around. And use BuyXfr.
When you are trying to purchase securities are you using the Investment Account the Register tab or the Bank Register tab, it should be the Register tab as my screen shot.
If you are still having problem can you post a screen shots equivalent to my 3 in the earlier post.
Hope this help

Hi Derek
I'm pleased to say that I have resolved my queries. The issue I was having with the register was that I was using the default of "Xfr" instead of "BuyXfr". As soon as I realised that, the rest fell into place. Price updates are coming through fine.
Thanks again for help and have a great Christmas!!
Alan
