I am new to Moneydance, and I would like to set up my etrade securities trading account in Moneydance. I can import a CSV file containing trades and transactions but when prompted to choose fields there are no field names offered for several important fields in the etrade file. Also, it appears there is no way to import a portfolio file into the securities list in Moneydance. Am I missing something?

    I'm a fellow user.

With few exceptions it is not possible to import a CSV file into an Investment account. A CSV file is really a table of data, in Moneydance, accounts other than Investment accounts, do work like a table so the two can be matched to facilitate the import of data. Investment accounts are driven by the action field, only certain values are accepted in this field and the action also determines what other fields are active and what fields are mandatory or optional. It does not really match a regular table structure.

For loading data into an Investment account QIF or OFX/QFX format files are the best match.
