The new Quote Loader
TIK has improved the security on the use of unsigned extensions. This is in build 1899 which is still in preview mode. Once it is released for general use you will see a warning message on the summary screen if you are using unverified extensions. This included all of my extensions. I have worked with TIK to get my extensions verified which includes Quote Loader. These are now available on my repository in https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/.
To verify an extension I have had to make my source code available to TIK. The author of the back end of Quote Loader (hleofxquotes) was not prepared to do this and thus I have redesigned Quote Loader to be standalone. I would like to thank hleofxquotes for his work and help in making Quote Loader an extension of choice.
I have asked TIK to add Quote Loader to the list of available extensions. This is being considered.
DerekKent23 has written/updated a PDF on how to install and set up Quote Loader. This is accompanied by a couple of videos. These assume Quote Loader has been added to the list of available extensions. Before that list is updated please download the file securityquoteload.mxt from my repository (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/) and add it using the MD Extensions/Manage Extensions/Add from File. The updated PDF will be available shortly.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON MY WIKI (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/wiki/Home) ABOUT UPGRADING FROM THE OLD VERSION OF QUOTE LOADER. YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE RHUMBA EXTENSION.

Hi Tom
The first time you installed Quote Loader did you restart Moneydance? See screen shot with note ”Please restart Moneydance after installing”
If not, it won’t run as you described.
The same instruction is included on page 2 of the PDF in large type. The PDF is attached to the release notes at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
If you have not read the PDF take a read to ensure you are getting the best out of Quote Loader.
Hope this helps.

I have ourchased Bitcoin in Euros through an Investment Account I have in Euros. My Base currency is GBP in MoneyDance. I created a new security BTC_EUR, since the purchase was in Euros, and I want to track it as an investment. I have also created a new Currency called BTC. When I run the Quoteloader extension a price for BTC-EUR it returned a value in GBP. I know that I did not follow the PDF instructions, but I do not think it covers my case, unless I am mistaken, where the base currency is in GBP but the investmen in Bitcoint is in a Euro account.
However, in the Portfolio report the price looked like a Euro price, except it was a bit off, unless I run the currency update first. Should the procedure I described work?
Sorry if a bit convoluted

Hi davidvernonlong
Before I take a look, I want to make sure I understand your setup.
1. Your Moneydance base currency is British Pounds.
2. You have an Investment account in Euros.
3. In this investment account you have a security for Bitcoins, the security is set up in Euros.
4. You want to track the investment using Quote Loader.
What version and build of Moneydance are you running, e.g. 2021.1(3039)
What is your computer operating system.
124 Posted by davidvernonlong on 24 Feb, 2021 06:57 PM
Yes to Q1 to 4
I am running Moneydance 3037, which I thought was the latest, because when I use the "check for updates" extension I am not being prompted to download another version.
I am using Quoteloader 3027

Hi davidvernonlong
and my last question. What is your computer operating system.
126 Posted by davidvernonlong on 24 Feb, 2021 07:58 PM
Windows 10 Home
127 Posted by davidvernonlong on 24 Feb, 2021 08:41 PM
Unfortunately MoneyDanc version 3027 will now not open. My other old computer, which is Windows 8 with MD version 2021 is working correctly.

Hi davidvernonlong
The following is based on 2021.1(3039), current preview build from https://infinitekind.com/preview, on windows 10. I think you mean build 3037 not 3027? Build 3037 was a dud and just did not run.
But I have no reason to believe that older working builds of 2021 will give a different result.
Take a look at attached file. It contains screen shots of the Moneydance setup I think you were looking for and a Net worth report which looks correct.
Hope this helps

Hi, What I was looking at was the price downloaded in quote loader, where along side BTC-EU, I see a price in GBP instead of EUR, as per the attached.
Thanks
David

Hi davidvernonlong
As you can see from the screen shot in the excel file I posted earlier, it shows the LAST PRICE and NEW PRICE in Quote Loader are in Euros, not in Pounds. I think the reason yours are in Pound is due to the fact that you have not set up the Bitcoin Security correctly under TOOLS – SECURITIES – BITCOIN in that the currency in the dropdown is set to BRITISH POUNDS whereas it should be set to EURO. Take a look at the setting in this window, top left screen shot in my excel file and attached screen shot extract.
Hope this helps

Yes, you are correct. Aplogies, should have got that right without bothering you, its pretty basic

Hi,
I am looking forward to using the new Quote Loader extension but I seem to have a general problem adding new extensions.
Having downloaded the securityquote3028.mxt file, when I click on the "add from file" I get the following error message ......
There was an error loading the extension file: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "java.io.InputStream.read(byte[], int, int)" because "metaStream" is null
I had previously been trying to add the securitypriceload.mxt (as I receive a daily .xls from one of the platforms with my fund prices) and get the same error message.
The support team at IK have been very helpful trying to resolve this, but are not quite there yet. I wonder if this is more a Java issue or something?
Any help would be appreciated as this stops me from trying these great looking new extensions!!
Many thanks,
David

Have you renamed the MXT? Sometimes when you download you get a number on the end.. Extension loader complains if the name does not match the extension. Check it's exactly: securityquoteload.mxt before you install..?

Hi DavidU
You don't need to download Quote Loader from Mikes site, it can be installed from EXTENSIONS - MANAGE EXTENSIONS.
Download the PDF in post 106 to see how to use Quote Loader from
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
Hope this helps.

Hi DavidU
By the way securityquoteload3028.mxt is a old archived file. If that's the one you are trying to install manually you should not try to use that. As I say install from EXTENSIONS - MANAGE EXTENSIONS
Hope this helps

Hi!
And very many thanks to both Stuart Beesley and derekkent23!
You have solved both my problems - which is brilliant.
Both extensions now successfully loaded so I can now look at how to use them.
Much appreciated

Quote Loader is a third-party extension that has been reviewed and signed by Infinite Kind (Moneydance).
For Moneydance 2019-2020-2021 latest Quote Loader build is 3031.
UPDATE • Before this fix the Current Price in Security Price History window would be incorrectly changed to the price used in a new Investment transaction involving a security if the transaction date predated the Quote Loaders last run.
EXISTING USERS using Quote Loader with a build number lower than 3021 should REMOVE (uninstall) all Extensions under EXTENSIONS – MB EXTENSION INSTALLER, lastly removing (uninstalling) MB EXTENSION INSTALLER itself by using the REMOVE buttons.
The background folder “.rhumba” is redundant, expert user can if they so wish delete the “.rhumba” folder with Moneydance closed. On installing the latest Quote Loader a new replacement folder “.qlmeta” is created. MB Extension Installer is no longer required to install Quote Loader.
As a signed extension Quote Loader can be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS.
Simply click EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS – AVAILABLE tab, find Quote Loader and click install or update.
Once installed re-start Moneydance - installation complete.
Quote Loader was developed and is supported by Mike Bray.
PDF’s and Video by Derek Kent.
The system provides an end to end solution, obtaining quotes from a choice of sources and entering them into the relevant Currency/Security History window, all from a single window within Moneydance. The system can obtain Security Prices, Exchange Rates, Market Indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.
Download the attached PDF, follow the instructions on how to use Quote Loader.
The PDF also contains links to a Quick Start Video Guide, a Short Tutorial Video and a Full Tutorial Video, all on YouTube.
The second PDF covers the creation and importing of Cryptocurrencies and Market Indices into Moneydance.

Note at time of post the message relating to Quote Loader build under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS is misleading, see screen shot. To install build 3031 click, REMOVE then INSTALL. After install the message is still somewhat misleading but at least Build 3031 is installed.
At some point hopefully the messages will be corrected.
Hope it will help.

Hi,
Noting “Before this fix the Current Price in Security Price History window would be incorrectly changed to the price used in a new Investment transaction involving a security if the transaction date predated the Quote Loaders last run”, would the same apply to currency exchange rates, or was this issue limited to security prices, as I am wondering why my exchange rate history is sometimes corrupted with strange rates, which I correct manually.

Hi David
I found the Security Current Price issue. No Security Price histories, Dated Prices, are affected.
I don’t know is exchange rates are affected in the same way.
Perhaps Mike could comment.

Hi David,It is possible that there could be some strange behaviour with security prices and currency rates which is now fixed. Prices received after the fix should be ok, please keep an eye on this and let me know if there are still problems.

Hi Mike.
Many thanks for your email.
I have been using the loader now for a number of weeks and it works really
well - saves me so much time!
I did notice just a couple of times some strange behaviour, which sounds
like the problem you have identified and fixed.
I'll update to the new version and will keep an eye on it.
It's a great addition to MD.
Thanks again and kind regards

I’ve taken this upgrade as an opportunity to set up Quote Loader properly (following the steps in your PDF) …
I want to set it up to Process currencies, but I can’t see how to tailor the currencies ie I only want EUR and USD (but I also get CAD, CNY & JPY) …
I’m sure there’s a simple answer, I just can’t see it!!!
Thanks …
Adam

Hi Adam
Quote Loader list the currencies that are shown under EXCHANGE RATES on the SUMMARY page. Assuming that EXCHANGE RATES are set to display under PREFERENCES – SUMMARY PAGE.
Double click on any exchange rate you do not want to follow and then EDIT and untick the box SHOWN ON SUMMARY PAGE. You can also untick the box using TOOLS – CURRENCES - Double click on subject currency – EDIT. Now when you open Quote Loader only the wanted exchange rates will be in the table.

Hope this helps
