The new Quote Loader
TIK has improved the security on the use of unsigned extensions. This is in build 1899 which is still in preview mode. Once it is released for general use you will see a warning message on the summary screen if you are using unverified extensions. This included all of my extensions. I have worked with TIK to get my extensions verified which includes Quote Loader. These are now available on my repository in https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/.
To verify an extension I have had to make my source code available to TIK. The author of the back end of Quote Loader (hleofxquotes) was not prepared to do this and thus I have redesigned Quote Loader to be standalone. I would like to thank hleofxquotes for his work and help in making Quote Loader an extension of choice.
I have asked TIK to add Quote Loader to the list of available extensions. This is being considered.
DerekKent23 has written/updated a PDF on how to install and set up Quote Loader. This is accompanied by a couple of videos. These assume Quote Loader has been added to the list of available extensions. Before that list is updated please download the file securityquoteload.mxt from my repository (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/) and add it using the MD Extensions/Manage Extensions/Add from File. The updated PDF will be available shortly.

OK, tested your Security on Moneydance 2021.1(3069) Quote Loader build 3038 and as you can see from the screen shot a price is returned.
I assume other securities are being returned without an issue?
Can you post a screen shot of Quote Loader after a Get Prices.
If I can’t see anything wrong with that I will post how you can obtain an error log.

Apologies for my ignorance but how do I “post a screen shot” and can I redact other securities which are irrelevant to the query? If not the OK.
Incidentally having noted that you had used “FT HD” instead of “FT” which covers all my securities I did try “FT HD” but to no avail!

I don’t think a list of Securities you hold is sensitive but you can reduce the size of the Quote Loader window and use its scroll bar to reduce the number of securities visible when you take a screen shot.
You add the screen shot file by clicking “Choose File” button when posting at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...

I too have tested JCGI on FT and FT HD, both returned prices on build 3038. Yahoo and Yahoo HD do not. Make sure the Exchange is blank.
Also as Derek has suggested an errlog would be useful as I will be able to see what request is being sent to FT. Click on Help (top right of Quote Loader screen) and select Turn Debug On/off and select Detailed. Run a manual Get Prices, turn the debug back to Information. Add your errlog.txt to your post.

Following your suggestion, I am posting a copy of my Quote Loader Prices screen showing the lack of prices for JCGI when set at London Stock Exchange
Having read Mike Bray’s email of this morning’s date I decided to rerun the price update with a blank exchange for JCGI and ~ surprise, surprise ~ the price updated as you can see from the second screen print!
This doesn’t explain why I have been previously able to obtain prices for 26 UK companies and investment trusts ~ all set at LSE & FT ~ on the 3021 version of Quote Loader ~ or why only one of the 26 now fails to update on the same settings within version 3038
However, with the problem resolved by simply leaving JCGI set at “No Exchange” I am absolutely delighted and grateful to the help provided by you both.

Hi Mike,
As you will see from response to Derek I have resolved the issue by simply removing the London Stock Exchange setting for JCGI. Puzzling though it is that this anomaly should suddenly emerge, the solution has proved to be very simple

The reason is that build 3021 did not have a prefix for LSE, this was corrected in a subsequent build and so having LSE gave it the wrong prefix.

It looks like on the FT site JPMorgan China Growth & Income plc ticker symbol is JMC
It also defaults to JMC if the ticker used is JCGI or GB0003435012 but not if you select the exchange LSE is added to create ticker JCGI:LSE or GB0003435012:LSE Note JMC:LSE does work.
Also see Mikes comments. 3021 had a bug if the exchange LSE was selected it should have added :LSE to the ticker symbol, and it didn’t.

@dtd, I have changed Quote Loader as suggested, please give it a try. You will find the new version at https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/ under the name securityquoteload3039.mxt. To install download the file and change its name to securityquoteload.mxt. Then install the extension using Extensions/Manage Extensions/Install from File. Let me know if you have issues.

@Mike Bray - I downloaded and installed 3039. Checked it out (partially) because all of my stock prices are now the same (due to the weekend), but did compare exchange rate changes, and assume stock prices would be the same.
The alignment changes (%chg and currency) look great, and allow me to change field closeness through heading length adjustments. Great.
As to: "I think that you must be comparing one of the values at full length vs. another at truncated length. I'd think it should be consistent (either compare both at full length or both at truncated length)."
It appears that you now compare both values at the truncated length, which does cause the %chg to alter if you change decimal length, but to the casual observer who always keeps the same decimal length, it looks "more right" to see 0.72 and 0.72 show 0.00 change vs. the technically accurate eight decimal comparison showing a slight difference. So, it's now consistent, and that's great, too.

QL downloads security prices from the internet. There is a config screen where you tell QL which of your MD securities to update. QL then automatically will update your prices for you. This means that your portfolio values will therefore update at the same time.
It does not download investment transactions.
A bit later today, I’m sure someone will point out the instructions and video.

@Mike Bray - I use Quote Loader daily, so appreciate the changes you've made.
As a note, I do find there are circumstances where %chg is still left aligned (i.e. up against new price) vs. right aligned. In particular, if there are no changes in new price i.e. all %chg values are 0.00, then it is often left aligned. I manually changed a new price in the middle of my list, and that value (and all values beneath it) became right aligned, while values above the manual adjustment stayed left aligned.
I'm assuming that's enough information to describe the situation.

Hi @dtd, I assume you are using build 3039. I am waiting on Sean to
verify build 3040. The left alignment happens when there has not been
any calculation. Once it has been calculated it goes right aligned.
This is fixed in build 3040.
I will have to wait until Sean finds time to verify my build.

Note at time of post the message relating to Quote Loader build under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS is misleading. To install build 3042 click, REMOVE then INSTALL. After install the message is still somewhat misleading but at least Build 3042 is installed.
At some point hopefully the messages will be corrected.

Hi Derek,
Thanks a lot for your development and support of Quote Loader, the best extension to Moneydance.
I download all my quotes from the FT, but recently the quote for IUSA, an iShares ETF, has been returning a price of around £12 instead of the actual price of around £32.
I’ve had the ETF a long time and it’s only recently started to show this error. I haven’t changed anything since I first set it up.
Can you help?

Hi Paul.
Can you confirm your Base Currency and the Currency in which the security IUSA has been set up?
IUSA is traded on a number of stock exchanges, see screen shot, can you confirm which one you are referencing, and the currency the Security is traded in.
Assuming the one you have holding in is traded on the London Stock Exchange then the Ticker Symbol should be IUSA:LSE:GBX not just IUSA. See screen shot and the resulting price Quote Loader returns of £32.8575 during the trading day of 31/1/2022.

The system can obtain Security Prices, Exchange Rates, Market Indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.
